Are hunters an endangered species?

The number of hunters has dropped from 17.1 million in 1975 to 12.5 million in 2006, a drop of 27%.

Then they followed with a poll as to whether hunting should remain legal. The options were:

1. Yes, as long as it's regulated
2. No, it's unsafe
3. Don't know

I'm sure we are going to see fewer and fewer hunters. What spooks me is having non-hunters decide whether hunting should be legal. That would be like me deciding whether sky-diving should be legal. I don't care for it, so let's make it illegal. I think that is the non-hunter mentality.

An indication of the ignorance of the poll is the first answer. In whose lifetime has it not been regulated.

My guess is that the number of hunters will drop 50% in the next 31 years.
