History will repeat weather Login/Join

Things from the past can happen again. Go back to the yrs 535-36 A.D and see what happened with a google search. We thought the past winter was bad down here in Texas without electric for several days. I am thinking to get a solar panel to use. When is the next big weather going to repeat as it can every few hundred?

I know + am constantly amazed on the stupidity of some people. Several years ago some people were going to buy a property down by the river + I told them that you know it's in a flood plain. They said, Oh that will never happen again. Then I asked them how they thought those cliffs got there?

And look how many live on the southern coast and then complain when hurricanes wipe everything out? Bizarre.

An interesting thing to search when you are bored is the "Makanaka ice cap" which existed over Hawaii.
The late Makanaka ice cap, which covered an area of about 70 km2 and was as much as 100 m thick, is reconstructed from end moraines and limits of erratic stones that encircle the summit region. The ice cap disappeared from the summit before about 9080 yr ago.

So basically around 10K years ago Hawaii had a 100 meter thick cap of ice.

Yes, we know storms will come, but have accepted the risk. As long as insurance companies will insure the houses, people will build. The lure of the sea is just too great. Back in colonial times, people would build their houses inland on higher ground. Then they would build a shack or shanty on the beach for summer enjoyment. Knowing full well it would eventually be blown/swept away, only to be re-built. That logic somehow seems to be lost on modern day society.

One only needs to look at a satellite view of the southeast US coast to realize reality. Those cute crescents cut into the coasts of SC, NC, and VA came about through repeated hurricane strikes throughout the millennia. So if you build on the beach don't be shocked if a storm wipes you out.

Oh + BTW, those folks I spoke of did buy the place + the next flood washed them out. I know the owner of the local Propane dealership + he told me they found their propane tank about 40 miles downstream.

Ah yes. The (media) invented - Global warming gives lots of people something to talk about. Nothing more to it than that in my opinion. Truth seems to be that we could even see this wave of heat for years and then cooling again.

As for buying a nice place on ground subject to peril, I once thought it would be cool to truck in a upscale prefab home (metal roof and hotel grade stucco) and mount it on 4 telescopic electric/hydraulic lifts along with backup solar power. The reward would have to justify the expense of course. Better be cheap land to start and a fantastic view in a warm area.

Oh chit. Get ready, another polar vortex (for the realist - cold weather) is on the way. What next? Trump is an alien? Pelosi is related to Stalin? rotflmo

I'm along in age but not dead yet, but I concern myself for my grandchildren. What kind of a world are we leaving them? With the current folks in "power" in D.C. who seems that their only agenda is to trash our nation. I REALLY don't get it.

They want to tear it apart to rebuild in in their image. Humans have done that for time immemorial. Each time they do the communist thing, they fail. The fail is bringing prosperity to 'everyone'. The success is only they prosper and the rest remain broken peasants.

True + socialism/communism has never worked. The definition of insanity is making the wrong decisions over + over, expecting different results.

Sometimes we are forced to pick from the available selection. That selection, no matter if red or blue may not include an ideal candidate. Like picking apples...... Some look great, are sweet and delicious through and through. Some look great on the outside but are bitter and tasteless. Some a little spotty in appearance and sweet and tasty on the inside......so to speak.
Randy,
Hopefully your siblings (really everyone) will have great choices in the future.

I agree completely; although some may disagree, we have not had a decent choice since Ronald Reagen, + frankly, I don't see anyone on the sidelines of any consequence. I'm welcome to any thoughts + ideas from those more politically savvy than me.
