Trying for a Roan soon. While it wouldn't seem the taxidermy would be as difficult as a cat or some other more challenging animals to get right, I still am guessing it's not one that most taxidermists see on a frequent basis. Asking for suggestions. Have used Lyons and O'haver in San Diego a lot, but no longer live nearby and would like to find someone closer to Texas.

Thanks!

I can whole-heartedly recommend Jerry Huffaker in Abilene. He did a marvelous job on my roan (my poor photography skills notwithstanding).

That's a fact! Where are you headed?

Mine came out of Zambia with Andrew Baldry of Royal Kafue...

North West Province, South Africa. Right on the Bots border. Outfitter and PH is Christo Vandeventer- Alpha Pride Safaris. Wife after a nice Roan, an itch she’s had for several years. She has a favorite 338 WM and I’m just taking a bow for some walk and stalk challenges. Have to count to be accurate, but I think this is Africa trip 14 for us. It truly is habit forming!

Go on Taxidermy.net. Ask who is the best guy for African stuff on there. You will get a spirited post going, but you will get the names of some quality taxidermists on there. I see the taxidermy on this site, most of it is not up to the standards that the top guys can produce. The differences are subtle, but very obvious after you look at a number of pieces. It's a shame that so many people on this site spend so much money on hunts and then some B-level taxidermist do their work.

Jerry Huffaker is a world champion and state champion in several states. I was an amateur taxidermist for many years. His work is truly exceptional.
He lives in Abilene and is the best I have worked with.

He has done 50 plus mounts for me.

I’ve seen work from both Jerry and Dennis, both World Champions. As good as you are going to get. I have seven pieces from Dennis in my home, they look great to me and I’ve seen a lot of taxidermy.

I live in Alaska and there are folks up here that do African Taxidermy. I've had all mine done by Jerry Huffaker and didn't blink about paying the shipping.

100%, Jerry is an excellent Taxidermist. Dennis Harris is another world class artist but for a Texas studio, I would recommend Jerry.

I recommend Bullseye Taxidermy in Limpopo. They did an excellent job for me on PG and buffalo.

I had bad trouble with Trophex, Stolen/switched Kudu horns and damaged Zebra.
