Shoulder and Pedestal mount conversions
We are planning a move and want to "downsize" some of our taxidermy. Is it possible to convert shoulder/pedestal mounts to euro mounts, face on euro mounts, or plaque-cap mounts?

I appreciate any information.

Classical taxidermy was just a sculpted face.

Jona's brothers does something like this for warthogs and cape buffalo.

I am not a professor and I am not sure what you mean by “just got there in 2016” comment.

BWW: No, that’a not me. You confused the heck out of me (which isn’t too difficult these days)

You of all people understand moving issues. Our larger taxidermy is a pain in the backside to move and we want to ship a lot of our taxidermy to our othere home.

I moved 14 times before I turned 18 both parents were civil servants and we moved for promotions or on a whim. Then I joined the Navy and moved another 11 times in 20 years. Including 6 international moves.

Since I became a civil I have moved 5 times in 7 years with 2 international moves.

Taxidermy for me is limited, and skulls are preferred.

Don't unpack, just live out of the boxes. I don't think I could go through moving that often. I've lived in 2 houses for the past 50 years.

Most of them won't be able to be converted to skull mounts because the skull isn't in the mount but they all can be made into a leather covered horn mount on a plaque.

We do mostly.

It is funny when people come over and ask if we are moving, and when we are going to hang stuff on the wall. We actually have very little to hang on the wall.

I used to have tons of prints, but through all these moves they have been destroyed.

Jerry, thanks for the info. I was thinking that. What about converting to a “face on euro”?

Like these but with real skin? I think is doable!

Yes. We have “skin on” euro blesbok and gemsbok mounts. It appears as if a portion of a form was used.

I'm a little late to this party, but I'll comment and say that I had a local taxidermist here convert a ratty old oryx shoulder mount to a leather-covered horn mount. It turned out quite nice. Kinda makes me want to do a couple more... Smiler
