farbedoDark colors on them. I've seen a few in Indiana, but none that white. Very cool deer.

BiebsYes, that gene seems to cause other irregularities...shorter, smaller, heavier coats, shorter muzzles. They look more like goats. This one has a lot of white coloration.
Bob, the Indians considered them spiritual....never shot them. But then again you're a LONG way from spiritual :-)

HannayBiebs - Thanks for the photo - I've never seen a piebald deer. I guess the skeleton must be deformed to give it that curved back. The body reminds me of a duiker.

Aspen Hill AdventuresThat's neat! The first time I saw a piebald deer I too thought someone's goat was lost in the woods.

BiebsAnn, I've had them here for 25 years or so. Every few years a new one appears. I remember the first one...it had really long hair, and used to come out into the field I was watching from my bowstand, right at dark. I also have Great Horned Owls, Pileated Woodpeckers and Great Blue Herons....quite a managerie! :-)

Palladin8Genetic inbreeding. If they are removed from the gene pool you wouldn't see them. Would also be healthier for the herd to ensure they don't breed.
With that said they are pretty neat looking.

FjoldI shot this doe about 10 years ago in Texas, it had a small patch of white hair on it.

FrostbitPut a high fence up, let them breed, then sell hunts for $20,000 to people with more money than brains. $30,000 if they use a Blaser.
24 January 2021, 07:05
BiebsYes, like Springboks in RSA....give them another month and they'll come up with a new color.
Piebald does appear in bucks, but not that often.

I don't own a single one! Going back to my Springfield Krag, some old leverguns, and single shots. Hunting the old fashioned way :-)

OkieNewtonI have seen several while hunting, I let them continue on their way. Too many other deer to shoot these.

dgr416It's from interbreeding . We had them on a lease we had once but the owner said we could not shoot them .
