Can you find out what the confidence intervals are for the various age classes for the pulp cavity technique?

Lane,

As I recall it was quite specific that she said it did not work.

I was asking about specific age, not categories, which is quite different, and near as I can tell you already said its not specific for age, but rather categories, and I was asking for an exact age. I have the discussion documented in my journal, so I can say what I heard at the time. She also had mentioned that regional variability was a big issue.

This has wandered a bit, as it was originally proposed that this would ID by age, and now it is ID's by age categories.

We had talked about nose patterns as well, which were something I recall she said were very area dependent and not so accurate.

Glad to see that I made enough of an impression that she sorta remembers me.

No sir...we/I have always said it was useful to put lions into age categories...which is really all that is needed.

Brad,
I will get that info for the forum. In my mind I know what it is but will get a direct quote from some of the scientists.

Age categories easily seperated by x-rays.

1) 4 & < have wide-open superior PM2 pulp cavities.

2) at 4 years 10 months...the pulp cavity of SPM2...narrows drastcially...seperating the second category of 5-6 year olds (hence the reason we (LCTF) and Dr. White has been for a 5 year old rather than 6 year old seperation).

3) lions >6 narrow even more allowing for a >6 category.

Lane,

Can you get the confidence intervals on those estimates? With out knowing how accurate the categories can be determined, the categories are worthless.

The 4&< and 5&> seperation (which is the meat & potatoes for us) has a >95% confidence ratio.
