I have been attacked for shooting some of the animals in my trophy room by people that came to my house for some reason or another and almost everyone has quoted TV shows about Elephant extintion and leopards barely existing and actually said i had broken numerous laws as they saw on TV it was illegal to hunt alot of these animals. Problem is no one but hunters will watch a show that tells the truth.

No man walks in my home and preaches at me. No one. Yes TV is full of crap. I have elephant parts in my shop all the time and %90 of hunters come in all the time and say they were told all of it was contraband. The antis are mastering the art of the half truth.

gerryb,

I have a son that has therapists around my home all the time, for the most part they are university ultra libs that show up in Prius's for the most part.

I get asked all the time about this shit, my constant attitude is; what exactly have you done in your lifetime for elephant conservation.....or lion conservation...have you ever driven through a village in remote Africa and seen the poverty...the hopeless condition? have you hauled excess baggage full of clothes to these people?

I am also an avid bicycle rider and have raced on and off over the last 20 years..Had some season end parties at my home. Bike people are also very, very green. I was asked by a guy and his bitch girlfriend one time about me wantonly killing all these denfenseless animals. I called him a clueless pussy and turned around and walked away.

We are who we are, they are who they are. We won't convince them of our way of life and likewise.

This is my constant message, we cannot appease them and should not try to, we must defeat them in whole the same way they wish to defeat us...in whole. We are constantly on our heels.

If this administration list this and that...we must elect one who reverses it. Begging is not the way forward.

Regards,

Steve

Steve,

I hope you are right. I live on the border of OK & TX. OK did not have even one county go for Obama...totally RED state...the only one. Texas is the next best...not a chance it will ever support Obama...or any other liberal.

So...around here it is just preaching to the choir.

A pretty wise fellow told me once that: "living in a democracy (which we live in a Republic) was great until you became the minority...then it sucked."

I am all about staying on message too. But heck...I never thought the US would elect Obama either.

Well said Steve. When I was a taxidermist, my partner and I had a large display at a hunting show here in Nashville. I noticed two elderly ladies staring at my Leopard mount. I walked over and asked them how they were doing, and one replied; "Why would you kill all these beautiful animals?" It struck me wrong and before I could think of a polite answer, I replied, "Because I like to hear them scream!" I left them standing there with their mouths open. I agree with you: time to stop backing up and make a very firm stand.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

I live in Alaska. I have one Brown Bear rug. Everything else I have killed went in our bellies. Since I hunted Africa I have taxidermy lined up. Don't ask me why? It seemed like a total usage of what I killed I guess.

I'll think of it as a 3-D picture of the experience. I killed the Bear 11 years ago and I still have vivid "mind movies" of the outstanding self-guided fly-in trip anytime I look up at him. I'm sure having my Buffalo staring at me on the couch will do the same for both Joyce and I.

She was in two women's book clubs. Some of the women's husbands hunt, none have taxidermy. They ALL kept asking "what are you going to do with all those animals"?

Joyce mostly answered without emotion until one started to get a little "tude" about the killing. Funny thing was it was a woman who went with her husband and children on a "mission" to Malawi. They left early because "it seemed like a scam. They just wanted stuff from us".

Joyce has gotten better about fighting the good fight by educating those that comment about the conservation returns reaped from the monetary value of the animal to the local economy. It probably helped Joyce understand even better when we dismantled a snare line found in Zambia.

Individual animals, be it leopard, lion or elephant can seem to affect people more than any given antelope. Joyce is not thrilled with the thought of me hunting elephant in the future and probably will not go with me on any stalks should I book an ele hunt. We respect each other's opinion although I'm working on her to come around. She admits it's illogical to feel any differently about an ele vs. a lion which she will be right there in the blind for.

One thing, in my opinion and your mileage may vary; I don't think it helps the hunting cause to respond like a chest thumping knuckle dragger. All it does is perpetuate the "anti's" opinion. And for those that think you can't change the "anti's" mind you are incorrect. If I can look forward to taxidermy coming when in the past I thought it is a waste, then an individual, with some reasonable discussion and education, can change an opinion about hunting. Not everyone but definitely some.

Chest thumping changes nothing but reinforcing the myth.

Your mileage may vary.

Jim,
I understand your point, just don't agree. I have put an entire lifetime of passion, time, untolled miles traveled, danger and god only knows how much money into my sport, I'll be damned if I allow somebody to come into my home, that doesn't know shit and critisize my endeavors or preach to me without a firm response.

I think that attitude is the underlying probelm. If the "opposition" felt a little more uneasy attacking our collective mindset then maybe we would not be constantly on our heels defending ourselves.

Offense rather than defense.

But thats just me Smiler

Like I said before, no man walks in my home and gets preachy about anything to me. Not just my dead animals, ANYTHING! What kind of low brow filth thinks he or she has the privilage to criticize anothers home as they stand in it. It wasn't that long ago that could earn someone an asswhipping. You can call it nuckledragging macho whatever, but to me its like someone slapping my wife. If you have any back bone at all you put your foot down and insure that never happens again.

Not letting someone insult your family while while recieving your grace and privilege, isn't being a "toughguy" its about being a man.
