Grabbed this one from a pawn shop in Porter Texas a few years ago. A matching number 1909 in 30-06. Kind of cobbled together but with the rear sight all the way down (with a screw intalled by the previous owner to keep it there) it throws 180 gr Core Lokt's inside 3" or 4" and a bit high at 100 yards. Kind of surprised given the original barrel. I bought it for the action as I hope to have a custom built on it sometime down the road. Been gathering parts. We shall see.

I think they were all rechambered from the original 7.65 Mauser round to 30-06.

The re-chambering to .30-06 was done to a few and mainly by importers. Most if not all of the '09 Argentines entered the country in the original 7.65x54 chambering. I have 5 and the groove diameter runs .312-.313. If the .06's chamber neck is generous enough a bullet of closer bore diameter could be loaded for better accuracy. Pacific makes a 7.65-06 reamer if you need it.

Try loading with .311 bullets and it will tighten up your groups.

Yep, 303 British bullets should do it. Just haven't handloaded for the thing. A new barrel will come when I build the final rifle. I can't see footing the cost for one now, adding sights and a blue job. This one is good enough with the CoreLoct's for hog blasting on my buddy's ranch as is.

I had several of those 7.65 Argentines that were rechambered to 30-06. Bore diameters varied and some shot OK with 308 bullets but others threw shotgun-like patterns. Substituting 303 British bullets made a big difference, just be sure not to mix them up and put one in a regular 30-06.
