Fal GruntArgentine 1891 receivers
Saw the thread below about the 1891 rifles. I was curious if anyone here would be interested in some as sporter actions. I have a few rifles that the barrels are toast and instead of parting them out, thought some folks would like them for sporting rifles.

GrenadierMaybe also .450 Bushmaster. It has a .473" rim and is a 40,000 psi cartridge. Perhaps a knowledgeable gunsmith will weigh in to confirm or deny that as a possibility...

DCS MemberWhat's the problem with the 7.65 Argentine other than availability?

dpcdAbsolutely nothing wrong with 7.65 Arg. Except it is a boring 31 caliber cartridge and changing calibers on old rifles is more fun than leaving them alone. Brass is easy to make from 30-06 if you can't find any.
And I have actually fired hundreds of 308 rounds from them; you get a long straight case when you are done.

bpesteveAbsolutely no problems with the 7,65 cartridge, it's a really good one and easy to make even if correctly headstamped brass were to disappear completely. If a person has an 1891 or 1909 in 7,65 with a barrel that shoots well, I can see no good reason to rebarrel it.
That said, my already sporterized '91 needed a new barrel and .35 Remington is perfect for that action in my eyes.
