I thought that this rifle was chamber in 6.5 carcano. I fired 4 rounds all 4 showed signs of over pressurization casing discoloring near the rim, sooting around the end of casing, primer burn though and sticky extraction. Does anyone have any ideals?

Could just have excessive headspace.

You indicate you "thought" is was 6.5 Carcano, you may want to do a casting and determine the caliber. If it is a headspace issue it will need to be properly headspaced. If it is a caliber issue you just need to get the correct ammo.

Could it be a 7.35 Italian Carcano??
Try to stick one of your 6.5 bullets in the nuzzle end of the barrel.

If it goes all the way in in might be a 7.35.

Also sometimes some of these war surplus guns are rechambered for a more avilable brass case.

I know some 6.5 Jap rifles were rechambered for the 257 Roberts case.
