vapodogNot exactly a military sporter....LOL
but this one has been through the war.
For a start the action was salvaged from an old Sears rifle. It was a .30-06 originally but now sports a new .25-06 barrel from Brownells. It's one of the cheap ones prethreaded and short chambered for M-98 large ring.....I merely cut off the thread and rethreaded it and rechambered it to fit the old sears action.....which is simply a slightly modified M-70 push feed. I also recontoured it to the featherweight contour.
The stock is the best part.....I bought a Fwt stock from someone in the classifieds but when it arrived it was broken into several pieces. It was insured so a claim was filed and paid....I wound up with the pieces of wood, recoilpad and sling studs to salvage.....
However a little birdie told me to see if I could fix it....so I cleaned the wood with acetone and piece by piece I used Brownells epoxy and put it back together....
It's not fabulous but it turned out quite functional and makes for one darn cheap and good looking "truck gun"
I have about $350 in this all totalled and that includes the scope!!!!!
The barrel is 20" and stock shortened for a lady of 5'-3"....
After all this, it'll still launch a 120 grain bullet at 2,900 FPS and shoot very close to an inch at 100 yards....
I love it when this happens.....
BTW it's a wedding gift for a friends new wife in Wisconsin.....
