A friend gave me can of IMR-4320. Do any of you use IMR-4320 in your rifles/hunting loads.

What cartridges does it work best?

How does it compare to other powders in terms of velocity and accuracy?

I've never used IMR-4320; I've always used IMR-4350 and IMR-4064

IMR-4320 was supposed to be a good choice in the 6.5x55, but I never had the luck with it that others claimed.

It's also got a somewhat different smell when burned.
It's hard to describe...

Exceptional accuracy and velocity was found with IMR 4320 and the 150 Nosler Partitions in one of my .30-06's.

Works super in my Rem 673 .350 Rem Mag.

225 gr. Sierra GK over 59.0 gr. of 4320 gives me 2650fps.

200 gr. Horn. IL over 62.0 gr. of 4320 gives me 2950 fps (!) - One of these days I really need to re-chrono that load. That's seriously devastating power.

I like 4320 for many cartridges. last year I was lucky enough to aquire about 9lbs really cheap. So thus use it in many applications.

It is my experience if your gun and slug already shoot well together and aren't big case capacity (ie mags and 25-06, 270) then it will work fine.

308 it was the go to powder for years. It gives good results in my 223 also, got a great load for 55g Sierra BTHP's with it. IMHO it is great for 30-06, 338-06, 35 whelen, 308, 260, 223, 250, 257, 7x57, 8x57 and just about any similar cartridges. Most books don't rate it at top of velocity charts. But does 50-75fps mean that much anyway?

But if you have a gun that is already very picky about loads then it may not be the best choice.

Will it be my powder of choice once I exhaust my supply? Doubtful but until then I'll keep on happily shooting it.

I was about to give up a my 243 when on a whim, I tried 4320. It's a tack driver with 100gr Noslers.

IMR4320 works great for my 458 Lott.

My 358 Win really likes IMR 4320 with 225 Sierra Gamekings. Lou

You'll never know 'til you try it for yourself.

I tried dozens of IMR-4320 combos in my 375 Wby and got sub-miserable accuracy. Couldn't get the stuff to toss a group under about 3 1/2" at 100 yds. Velocities weren't much to speak of either.

338-06 + 4320 = .5 moa 200 & 225s

I concur with Dr. Lou. I also like IMR4320 in the .358 Win. with the 225 gr. bullet.

I've had great luck with it in my .270. I worked up (carefully) to 49.5 gr IMR 4320 with a 130 Sierra GK.

I get 2900+ fps from a 22 inch barrel, and it's my standard for accuracy.

It's hotter than most of the reloading manuals suggest, but it's fine in my rifle (been shooting it for years, with no signs of excessive pressure at all, and long case life).

But be careful -- work up to it slowly.

I have a bit of 4320 that I used for 22-250 until I changed to Varget.

I wanted to use it up so I tried it im my Win 70 fwt 30-06 with Nosler 180 Ballistic Tip bullets.

Imagine my surprise when I shot a 4 shot group that measured .367" I'll be hunting with this load!

I love 4320 in the 35 Whelen and 30-06

I use it in all of my 308 size loads 358,308, and 7-08 + 300 weatherby BB2

I load 250gr Accubonds in my 9,3X62 CZ 550 American. CCI200 primers. Gives MOA at 2500fps. Good past 300yds due to extremely good Bal. Coef. of the Nosler bullet. $.02. Shrps74

It is the powder for the .458 Lott, nothing else will come close for velocity..I liked it in the 338-06 std and Imp version, again it got me the best velocity..Accuracy has always been acceptable.

It is a decent powder in a lot of different calibers, 25-35, 250 Sav., 257 Robts, 270,06 and others..It's a nice all around powder but I only use it on the Lott and the 338-06 as the other calibers work better with other powders.

BTW, I'd have to check, my buddy who got my 77 SS 350 Rem Mag, clocked some 200 RP I loaded either with 4320 or 4895, but I know I used 4320 in some of the loads, likely 4320 was used with 225's I loaded for him....yes 350 has some real horsepower, just like a nicely built Chevy small block! Acts more like a larger ctg, near duplicating a 338/06 and 35 whelen.

Anxious to try some for my 708 and 140-150gr range. See what happens, Varget/4064 has been my go to, but 4320 and some 150 ballistic tips I am expecting ought to cut some small groups in my 700 varmint.

I've have good luck with 120 grain Nosler Ballistic tips over 43 grains of IMR-4320 in both my 260's. As I recall, velocity is +/- 3,000 fps. One is a Kimber Montana, the other a Sako 75 Varmint. I've killed deer, hogs and turkey out to 300 yds with the Kimber. Shot one hog (approx 200#) with the Sako. So far, everything has been DRT.

H4320. It is IMR 4320. I use much more Hogdon powder than anything else and mislabeled the caption.

Sub MOA in my 375 H&H w/270 grain Fail Safes. Also good velocity.
