Just picked this up the other day. I have a soft spot for the 30-40 Krag after my father gave me his that he bought from the NRA or CMP for $4.75 back in the 1930s. I'll keep it with the receiver sight, and add a new red recoil pad. Should be a fun little woods sporter.

Handsome stock, and the sight is so appropriate for that rifle. Beautiful find!

One question, though: How do you ass a recoil pad? I don't think you're using it properly. Wink

Very nice rifle! I'm up to 2 .30-40's now as well.

Here is a nice video of a great buck taken with a sporterized .30-40.

Thats plumb cute, Id love to attack that stock with my cabinet rasp, add a steel grip cap and open up the grip and get after that monte carlo comb and if the stock is long enough add a Neidner steel checkered butt plate and make that rifle look like what a mannlicher stock should be, but hey thats just me, Im deadly with a cabinet rasp and sandpaper..I can't checker anymore, but would have it done on that fine rifle..

Ray, the person I used to have checker all my builds recently retired, so I'll have to find someone else. I'll see how the stock finish touches up. If it doesn't look good and I have to strip the finish, that opens up the possibilities of mods to the grip, comb, etc. We'll see.
