Ok, you guys got me om target with 200 grain bulletts for my M700 in 8mm Mauser. Haven't finished exploring yet but I am under 1" with over 2700 fps.

I have several hundred 185 grain Remington Cor-Lock in 8mm and I want to develope a load with these bullets. I have found only one place with data for this combination. I don't always trust what I get off the net and multiple sources of information can be helpful. Does anyone load 8mm Mauser with these bullets and would share your data?

The hand loading manuals only list low pressure loads for the 8mm Mauser. I'm tempted to simply pick a medium burn rate powder that I've got on the shelf then start low and work upwards until I see a sign of pressure. I have never done this before and I fear my first pressure sign will be unpleasant.

AA2460 substitutes.

I started at 50 grs. of RL-15 and worked up to 55 grs. of RL-15 in my rifle with both the 185 gr. Rem Corelokt and the 200 gr. Speer and Noslers, it came with a long throat and magazine. Some Mausers do and some don't. I can get 2700 FPS with my gun with either bullet. But its my bush gun so my hunting load is 2600 FPS with both bullets.

Its a 1944 LR Brno made at the Brno factory as they were building guns for the German military at the end of the war when the German army left and went home and Brno went back to building great rifles once again and these are the only LR Brnos of that era...Its a fine rifle in 8x57 with a full rib and integral iron sssights. Has a real nice Mod. 22 Brno Manlicher stock with outstanding wood. I found RL-15, RL-17, and H414 the best powders for the heavy bullets..

CFE223 is my favorite powder for 150 and 160 gr. bullets and you should be up around 2900 to 3000 FPS depending on your gun..

These are top loads for good Mausers, Rem 700s, and Mod. 70s etc.

I shoot both a M700 Classic and an M70 both in 8x57. I normally reference Hodgdon's data on their website when working up any powders. With the 185 RCL, H4895 has been pretty good.

I shoot a rather mild load with the 185gr Remington at 2550fps in my 98 semi sporter.

Shoots and Kills well.

The good old 8X57 just doesn't get the respect it deserves.

Most, if not all SAAMI spec data is anemic.

For "adult" loads closer to CIP spec;

Start with 54gr RL-17 and work your way up to 2900fps.

That should keep you around 60K psi

That's where Im at also..I see the 8x57 as pretty much duplicating the .308 but a bit better than the .308 with the heavy bullets, and that's no light praise..Its just a neat old caliber and appeals to my nostalgic soul..

I see the 8X57 as the equal to the 30-06 with bullets of 200gr or more.

3300 ft# of Me is pretty respectable and I certainly don't see the 308 as an equal.

Duplicating the 308? The 308 doesn't duplicate full power (CIP) loads for the 8x57. Not even close and the SAAMI pressure for the 308 is 62000 PSI.

Even with 180gr bullets at higher chamber pressure it lags behind the 8x57 by 200 FPS

The most accurate bullet Ive found in several of the 8x57s Ive owned including the one I presently own is the 160 gr. GS Customs HP monolithic bullet. Its fast and cuts one hole in the target at 100 yards...Ive killed two Mule Deer with that bullet and its awesome, mostly drop on the spot kills..Defies logic, it kills very well and you get very little blood shot meat, you get a big clean hole that looks like hamburger and about 2 or 3 inches of blood shot stuff and a large exit hole. I hope it continues to do this and not a fluke, but two deer don't prove much.

How does the length of the 160gr Monolithic bullet compare to say a 220 Gr Sierra Gameking?

Because of the ogive, the 160 gr. HPBT is almost the same as a 150 gr. Barnes X. I have them all loaded so can't measure but the OAL of the loaded round is the same as my Barnes X loads. I get 2809 FPS in my 20" carbine barrel Brno mod 22 with the 160 and RL-17..about 70 FPS more than my .308. I don't see 200 FPS difference between them, and consider them equal enough, same with the 30-06..
