RM

There are a lot of guys on these forums who are more than willing to help, but not if it requires registration on another forum. Give a direct link, or a photo.

When I find these posts, I always wonder is it a request for assistance, or a ploy to increase hits/membership in a forum.

Can you still not see it? Confused

Here are the dimensions. The box is Herters brand marked "300 Magnum"

It is by far closest to the 300 Win mag.

Some cartridge drawings will not show a belt at the bottom even for a belted case.

Mystery cartridge Length 2.604 ......................300 Win Mag = 2.620
Base .528 .................................................. ........ .532
shoulder length 2.192 ............................................... 2.196
thickness at shoulder .486 ......................................... .489

The post was in the reloading section which I did not know was a members only area.

Dimensionally it is within reasonable tolerance to be a 300 Win Mag as long as that badly drawn rim is actually a belt. If its not that, its something I've not come across. Any chance of getting your mate to get a better pic. If its the auction on Gunbroker for a box of 180grs & one of 165 gr its cheap enough, go get it anyway, if its something strange & rare you'd be bound to do well out of it. Smiler

At one time Herters was hellbent to outdo the Weatherby classic cartridges and they introduced their own line of propriatarity cartridges and in most cases were names something like the "Herters powermag".....or something to that effect.....IMO there is no real collectors value as Herters wasn't a collectible entity....there may be a few collectors....but darn few and the price isn't worth searching out.

If someone here had a .300 Herters whizbangmagnum for sale, I'd offer enough to be able to rebarrel it to something sellable.

It's a .300 Winchester Magnum. The diminsions you give are well within manufacturing tolerances.
