I have had a Savage Impulse on "contact me when available" from Buds Guns for a few months.

Got an email today that they had 3, and by the time I checked out they were all gone. So I must have got the last one.

When it gets here I'll do a review.

I am really excited about it.

It has some Heym SR30 features and quite a few of it's own.

I started a thread on the Miscellaneous Topics forum. Complete waste of time. Turned into the usual pissing contest by the Blaser haters. Perhaps you will do better.

There are several reviews of the Savage Impulse on YouTube.

None of them are really reviews other than the USOG, most of them are just paid advertisements.

I am not going to post a video, or at least I don't think I am.

But I'll do a review when it gets here on this channel.

BWW, I don't know whether they are paid or not, but, Savage has a reputation for making accurate rifles, so, the question for me is: How does the straight pull affect accuracy? One guy did claim that he could hit a 3" gong at 700 yards repeatedly, with his 6.5 CM rifle. If so, thats pretty good, but, is it worth $1400.00?

Mine was a little over $1200 shipped to my FFL for the Hog Hunter model.

I have yet to buy a scope for it, and I hate to steel one off of a long range rifle that is set up.

I also don't have any 300 Win ammo loaded, so there are some hurdles in the way. Hopefully a month or two.

Found some 300 Win brass, have bullets and powder, just a matter of finding a sizing die. I bought a set of used RCBS neck dies and with a match seating die, then realized the necksizing dies wouldn't make the brass fit the chamber. Had been looking online for a set of 300 win full length and finally just found them. So they are headed this way. Should be shooting it soon.

It shoots, I broke my 300 Win sizing die stem a couple of days ago. It has a 3-18x56 34mm Jap scope on it (Crimson Trace).

So it weighs about 12 pounds.

I got 8 rounds in before I screwed up the dies, so now I am waiting on a replacement 300 Win stem.

Found some locally manufactured 180 Grain SST ammo this weekend, so on Saturday I'll shoot it and see if I can get it to work.

Maybe Friday night if the handbrake gets back from her appointment early enough for some day light.

It is not as smooth as a Heym SR30 (but it cost 1/4th as much in America and 800 Euros less in Europe. Having spent owned an SR30, it is a very nice rifle, but I like the operational system much more on this Impulse.

I can't see the Heym having any advantages in the accuracy category.

The stock is the typical accustock, and I think for a plastic stock at that price point it is fine. I used the tallest cheek and removed a spacer to move the optic closer to me.

Used 1 round to sight it in, adjusted the scope and shot the remaining 7 into a .79 inch group. Typical Savage.

Trigger is actually really good. Best Savage accutrigger I have ever used. Fees like a $200 two stage. I have a $500 two stage in a 700 clone, and of course that's a lot nice, but at the Impulse price point I think it is good.

I have a Mule deer hunt coming up in 12 days and it is going.

As much as I love these 12-15 pound rifles with big 34mm scopes on them, I think I am going to order try to find a 30mm first focal plane Japanese or European scope with a top end of 15-18 with a Christmas tree reticle. Leupold doesn't make a pier level 30mm FFP scope like that. The Mark 5's, Mark 6's, and Mark 8's are all 34mm

Update, accurate but only fires about 50% of the time trying two different ammo.

Send it back or trading it off. We'll see in a few days.

Light primer strikes? Off center hits? Savage should make it right. There is a lot of stuff going on inside that bolt. I find the hole in the bolt head retaining pin often interferes with the FP in detachable head guns. Thus causing the dreaded "snapper". No telling what else could inside that bolt.

Spoke to Savage and they sent a shipping label for it.

It is going back. Hope to get it boxed up and out tomorow.
