280 Remington load?
Just picked up my first 280, a stainless Model 700

I will be hunting a mixed bag of deer, elk, moose, and black bear, and plan on using the 150 grain Barnes Triple Shock

what do you guys shoot in your 280s?

134 accubonds, or 154 accubonds both work in my 280.

Is it safe to let for a 58 year old man run around in the woods unsupervised with a high powered rifle?

IMR4831 is hard to beat for accuracy and top velocity. RL19 is also good but I've never had quite the accuracy with it as with IMR 4831. I've also had very good groups using CCI250 primers. Hope that helps

My combo deer/elk load is a 160grNP over 57gr IMR7828, Fed210M in Norma cases. It makes 2800fps from my lt.wt. 23"bbl & on good days I can break 1/2moa @ 200yds. If you are intent on the 150gr Barnes, try H4831sc.

I always liked IMR-4831 with 150s in the .280.

Given the animals you listed, I would use my favortie load for that size game...

160 grains Nosler Partition bullet, 54.0 grains of IMR 4350, and CCI Large Rifle Primers.

That load has been extremely accurate in my two .280s. I have not killed any moose with it, but I've killed elk, deer, and Black bear with that load with no problems.

I would use it on a moose if I needed to do so.

Good luck.

Tod, my '92 vintage 700 BDL SS works well with a 150 Partition over 54.0 IMR 4350.
My 700 mountain rifle does not like this load instead likes the same bullet over 53.0 H4831 or the 160 Accubond and 52.5 RL 22.
Good luck with your "New Toy"...I'm sure you'll enjoy !

FWIW, for you guys using 4350, give a slower powder a try. Accuracy was great in ym 280 but vel. was quite low, closer to 7-08 vel. H4831sc, RL22 & IMR7828 make the 280 really hum & accuracy has been all I could ask for from my lt.wt. bbl. beer

I drive 55 H4350 under a 140 TSX in a 22" 700 Mtn Rifle 280 to about 2985 and sub MOA.
