You should have no trouble with the twist but what do you expect to gain?.....the 7 X 57 is very little short of the 7 X 64.....the gains are very small for the expense.

Won't work anyway, the Brenneke has a smaller case head than the 7x57.

I strongly recommend you review the article Ken Waters did on the 7x64 Brenneke in his book "Pet Loads". He had his gunsmith do the exact same thing and then regret it.

Unless you are going to have your smith set the barrel back to assure that no issues with the neck/shoulders then it will work. But for what? His cost will probably approach what a new barrel will/would have cost. Pretty hard to set a barrel back and get any markings, sight holes, etc lined back up.

Just running a reamer in IS NOT ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE! A GOOD gunsmith will tell you that, if your's isn't telling you this then I'd recommend looking for a different one.

The gains are small and a 7x57 in the US has a pretty good resale but rechambered guns drop in value quick.

IMHO leave the 7x57 alone. Either buy a 7x64 or sell the brass.

Danny Pedersen did the conversion on a 7x57 CZ 550 for me. I don't know if he set the bbl back or not, but it feeds and shoots perfectly. Bob

Well shortening the 64 mm brass to 57 mm, is cheaper than reaming out your rifles throat.. and then having a barrel that says 7 x 57, but is chambered in 7 x 64....

and as Vapo said, you won't gain much...

I shorten Nickel 280 brass all the time to make 7 x 57 brass.. because I wanted nickel brass in 7 x 57.. because the nickel brass, denotes at a glacne that I have Nosler Partition loads in that case,

another warped example of seafire logic... thumb

The 280 would be a better fit, but really, I would sell the #1 in 7x57 & buy a diff. rifle in 7x64. The cost to do a proper rechamber for such a little gain isn't worth it. Brass is cheap. diggin

The 7x57 has a thicker neck that the 7x64 reamer doesn't clean up without setting backa thread or two.

I neck nickel plated .223 cases up to make 6x45mm, same theory. Regular .223 for the Mini-14 are brass cases. Hopefully I won't ever mix them up when it's important not to...

Why not buy nickel plated brass for your 7x57? I have several hundred rounds of it with a Remington headstamp.

If you want more velocity just improve the 7x57, but in a Ruger no. 1, with a throat that allows you to seat the 175 gr. Hornady half way to the cannalure, it will take any bullets down to a 130 gr. Speer and your velicity with H414 will leave the 7x64 sucking hind tit and surpass the factory loaded 7 mag., but not a handloaded 7 mag, but close enough for Government work...
