You do not mention the rifle, but here is the load I like for a Ruger #1S. 250 gr. Nosler accubond, 56.0 gr. of Varget, Federal 210 primer, and Hornady brass. Groups normally run around 1 inch or a little less at 100 yards, but occasionally go under .5 inch. So far I have made 7 one-shot kills on whitetail deer with this load. If you are interested in other bullets, I have had excellent luck with the 250 gr. Barnes on eland, waterbuck, zebra, and nyala, as well as smaller animals like civet and honey badger. The best powders I have tried in the 9.3x62 are RL-15, RL-17, Varget, and IMR-4320. I don't know what components you have available in the UK. Good luck.

My 9.3x62 is a CZ American and I use John Barsness load data for 250 grain NAB's and Varget. I hesitate to provide the load data as it is significantly over Nosler loading manual's maximum, but it has proven safe in my CZ. His load data is readily available on the internet and has been published in a specific magazine as well. John's load gives a muzzle velocity of just over 2600 fps and my 5 shot groups are often under MOA at both 100 and 200 yards. I will caution it is a fairly hot load so, as always, I would recommend working up to his published load.

Start young, hunt hard, and enjoy God's bounty.

Like many I don't give my load data out as it is worked up for each individual rifle. I will say that look up loads using RL17 (it has been the best powder combo with the 250AB in my rifles) (Ramshot Big Game is my second choice) Tested 6 different powders. I have shot 10 african plains game everything from Diker to Blue widlebeest with that bullet.

Work up a load with RL-15 or 17, its a good bullet for PG and works Ok on elk size animals. Id use it on cape buffalo if its all I had on hand at the time..but prefer a 286 on tough stuff in Africa, and I liked the 320 gr. Woodleigh in a a 26" barrel on buffalo as it squeezes just enough more velocity to build up my confidence, I guess! tu2

Are you the same as on Scout Rifle forum? I have a 9.3X74 O/U that likes 250 gr X bullets quite well. Not sure how to make that work (interpolate) to the X 62. Haven't loaded that bullet in my 9.2 X 62s. I'm always interested in these discussions. Thanks for asking. Be Well,Packy

I’ve seen some impressive data on the web for the 250 AB and Hodgdon’s CFE-223.

Yes, welcome Scrumbag, good to see you over in the Good Place.

Being more inclined to the heavier bullets, I haven't used 250-grainers in my 'new' 9.3 (the only Zastava I've ever seen with decent wood grain) but can tell you that Dale's advice appears moderate - my 2010 ADI manual lists 56 grains of AR2208 (Varget?) as the starting load with 250gr bullets. The velocity is listed as 2320fps - exactly the same as their starting load for the 286-grain bullet in front of AR2209. ADI's maximum with AR2208 and 250s was a compressed 60 grains for 2455fps.

Nice to be here matey.

I was more going off Viht N540 and Ramshot Big Game data which gets you into 2,600fps at the top end

My pet loads with several 9.3x62:
286 Woodleigh, 58 grs. of RL-15 for 2520 FpS average of 10. This load is the full equal of my pet 375 H&H load..

230 GS Customs, 59 to 59.5 gr of IMR-4064 for 2655 FPS depending on the gun.

320 Woodleigh, 59 grs of RL-17 for 2372 FPS

250 Swift. 67 grs of H414 in most guns, but 2708 FPs in one gun and 2690 in another. warm load. 2700 was probably a fluke on the screen..I highly recommend one stay at 2600 FPS for max loads..

IMR 4320 is very good with 250 gr bullets in the 9.3x62. Kind of a forgotten powder but still very accurate

Yes Sir, IMR-4320 has seen its day with todays newbies and all the flashy new powders..but you can still get highest velocity in the 9.3x62m 338-06, 35 whelen, and their counterparts in many cases with IMR-4320...Give it a try.

I have a lot of info on the 9.3X62 including bullet test reports, articles, loads etc. I have shared them with many here. PM me your email.

Yes I have John Barness' article with loads including 250 Accubond.

I have my loads for the virtually identical original 250 Balistic tip

My favourite powder is AR 2208 (Varget).

Haven't tried them on heavy game yet, but do run a similar load with RL-17 under the 320 gr Woodleigh soft and solid for 2400 fps from a 25.5" barreled Heym 98 Mauser, it is indeed a missile launcher.

The RL-17 is pretty impressive, Ive been playing with it and it bests the RL-15 in every case so far, The 9.3x62 sure needs a 26 inch barrel (25.5 is good) to get the needed velocity to top off a that big bullet, at least on paper, but every little bit counts in the field I suspect.

A lot of time has passed since this post, and my test indicat the RL-17 beats my pet load of RL-15 by 54 fps in one gun and 69 fps in another..I have about 200 or more rounds loaded with RL-15, so can't see changing anything until I shoot the supply up, but its definatly on my agenda, also was doing some testing with CFE-223..but sold my 9.3x62, sent the other one back to the owner and got a heck of a deal on a 375 FN, so Im on that one again..Ive never beenm able to make up my mind on the 9.3x62 vs. the 375 H&H..never will...

I might should add that 2700 FPS is do-able in the 9.3x62 with light bullets of 232 and 250 grs/ BUT, your at high max and won't work in many guns and use new brass..I belive 2600 is the logical red line max load..where the 9.3x62 should be

I've owned three rifles chambered for the 9.3 x 62.

A CZ 550 American, A Sako 75 Hunter and a Blaser R93.

First a Caveat. The Nosler #7 manual lists 56.5 gr. Varget as Max load for the 9.3 x 62 cartridge.

I typically do not load over max book loads.

This is one of the few instances that I do.

Here is a Sako 75 Hunter that started life as a 30-06.

Reincarnated as a 9.3 x 62

Sako 75 Hunter, 9.3 x 62, 2.5 x 8 Ziess Conquest

Shoots pretty good too.......

58 gr. Varget was what I used in this rifle

Next was the CZ. I loaded 58.5 Gr.Varget in that rifle

My latest is the Blaser and 60 gr.

Works in my R93

IIRC John Barsness' pet load for the 9.3 x 62 with the 250 Gr. Accubonds is 60 gr. of Varget.
ya!

I know the AR clan is pretty heavy on the 250 gr. bullets in the 9.3x62..Im not, the 9.3x62 was never intended to be a long range caliber and made its good rep on killing with the 286 and 293 gr. bullets, its darn close to a 375 in that regard IMO...

If I want to reach out there a ways Id go with a 9.3x64 or a 338 Win. Again were taking a fine caliber and trying to turn it into a flat shooting varmint rifle, like the group that wants to turn the 257 and 250 savage into a 25-06 or 257 Wby, WHY WHY WHY???? rotflmo horse sofa

I'd say they don't meet the standards for cleanliness in their waste materials so the EU voted them out.

I don't have a 9.3 anything but what I'm seeing here is that anything in the 4064/335/CFE-223/H-380/RL-15 area does work quite well.

ADI has counterparts, as does VV, Lovex, and Norma in that burn range, I'd bet even Maxam has one in there somewhere.

I wouldn't get all worked around the axle about the name on the container, but would instead find the brand of powder I could get in that burn speed area and go with it.
who cares if it says butter worth's sage and rosemary super deluxe extra double fine on the wrapper?
it will get the job done just as good as anything made for hodgdon.

Lamar I'm very surprised you don't have one of those 9.3x57 in the Swedish Husky!! Fine round and good for Idaho.

I'm thinking of a 35 Whelen on a 7.7 Jap action, what do you think?

So, I've used up pounds and pounds of RL15 in my 9,3x62, It's burn rate is similar to Varget and for all intents and purposes the same as Norma 203B. So, hopefully one or both of those is available to you.
