Hi To All,

The following is a little tongue-in-cheek, but HEY,
maybe not! We've all heard of The African Big Five,
& then the Improvised Big Six when Hippo is merged
into the Dangerous Game category.

Here now "The-African-Man-Killer-Seven", adding
Close-Quarters SHARK Hunting !!! Eeker Yes you'll
need to be a certified SCUBA diver. And of course a
cage is OUT Of The QUESTION, because the idea
is to face the danger of a shark that CAN KILL,
AND EAT, US !!! You'd have a blood-bag, trickling,
attached to yourself, so the shark will be drawn
straight to you for a Spear-Length kill experience.
And for those of us who likely will never be able
to afford to go to Africa to hunt the other six, if
you have access to the saltwater of the world, spec-
ifically where dangerous sharks swim, [like Florida,
where I reside] you can at least hunt one deadly
species that is huntable when you're in Africa too!!!
Ah Yes. Hope does spring eternal... I promise to
post video of my adventure for the AR members to
view and comment on. I expect that adequate bravery
will be manifested.

Not that it will change your mind but, a very good friend of mine here told me Friday that his brother had been doing that very thing (without the spear) in the Bahamas 10 days ago. In his case, the sharks won. He was at his brother's home helping his sister in law get his affairs in order.
Good Luck wave

Gentleman,

At two minutes, seven seconds it's serious!
Who's gonna DIE?

And I remind you, we've had a chap or two, very
well respected on this site, walk in Africa with
his young adult daughters, among a pride of so-
called "safe" lions, with their owner. AND NO ONE
HAS A GUN!!! No one came down on these fellows
that I saw. Yet time after time we see so called
"trained" dangerous animals suddenly attack their
trainers, and people who have paid to pose for a
photo with them. Why beat up on me because I want
to hunt dangerous game up close? I'd have a partner
equally armed; we'd also have bang-sticks.

Yes, Spear-Length kill shot with a Spear GUN. I did
fail to state that. And I am sorry for that. I still
don't think I deserve what I got, especially from
lionhunter and jdollar.

There are an awful lot of people who have done things that I would never entertain doing & for the life of me cannot understand why they do them.
Some things just push the limits too far for me to understand.
I used to like living a little on the edge too, but I have more than myself to think of now.
But it's no skin off of me if you decide to do this, please just have your affairs in order in case the (IMHO) expected happens.
Please be careful.

Hell man, there's thousands of what I classify as idiots that jump out of perfectly good airplanes too. One of the things I'd never do. Yeah I know lot's of guys on here have done it. Save your breath I've heard it all for yrs.

Do what you wish and enjoy it. IF you get bit, just remember what you've read here while being chewed on. When you win with the sharks, make your next goal doing the same in the big croc waters!!

Fishing guide I went out with in July '11 told about the same place we were at. His client two weeks before had a big tarpon on for nearly an hour when up fairly close to the boat a 12'+- hammerhead jumped up and bit the tarpon in half. He'd never seen that before in 35yrs of guiding in that area.

To JDOLLAR,

According to your post below from another thread, you CHOSE to
hunt LEOPARD the " MOST exciting and DANGEROUS WAY ". And
this method, the dogs chasing the cat, is "the common denomin-
ator" for many charges.

charge during a dog hunt.

Did YOU qualify for the Darwin Award for seeking out the most
DANGEROUS method of hunting your LEOPARD?

So why am I wrong to want to experience the thrill and satisfac-
tion that you've had, where I am able to?

And why be rude to one another? Unless someone is posting in the
manner that SHOOTAWAY does, why throw punches at someone be-
cause they hunt differently than you?

To LionHunter:

Sir,

First, I take it you served our nation as a Marine
and I sincerely thank you for that.

Regarding your comment about my shark hunting plan:
"Congratulations on what may be the most ridiculous post ever published on AR !" barf

Don't you get pumped up about hunting dangerous
African game on land, up close, and Increasing
the DANGER Level
by opting for handguns regularly?
Why can't I hunt shark while in the water in SCUBA
gear with a spear gun and bang stick instead of
safe and sound in a boat with a rod and real? Both
require chum in the water to draw the sharks. You
sit on baits for lion and leopard don't you? Do you wait
inside a steel cage like a coward for them to appear?
I'll bet not. How about this? Why don't you tell me
how I should hunt shark.
Not that I'd consider tel-
ling you how to hunt the BIG SIX.

And the only guy on AR I've ever been harsh toward
is that buffoon SHOOTAWAY. So why did you choose
to be ungentlemanly to me?

And since AFRICA'S DANGEROUS SEVEN already exists,
I propose here and now that there are in fact:
THE FIERCEST EIGHT OF AFRICA !!!

Best regards,

D/R Hunter

We have made them in varying calibers, ranging from the 22 LR, 357 Magnum, 44 Magnum, 303 British, all the shogun ranges.

I can make you one in any caliber!

However, one needs to be carefully using the bigger ones.

Lots of noise, and the hard recoil!

Because in the spearfishing world this sport is conducted in an ethical manner and the use of SCUBA equipment is not tolerated - similar to hunting/shooting from a vehicle. Big Grin

My response to Jim had a bit, just a bit, of sarcasm in it friend. Roll Eyes

And LionHunter is right. There are no sharks on the coast of Africa. Roll Eyes

I am Advanced Open Water Certified and Nitrox Certified L/H.

And since since this sort of hunt is not looking very attractive to any-
one except me, how about we all just forget that I ever brought it up.

Saeed,

With the rifle and the bang stick side-by-side, if I had to shoot one it would be the bang stick, but what in the sheep-dippin' hell am I going to poke with it? Would be ideal for folks who like to hunt buff really close...

"Last of the Blue Water Hunters' by Carlos Eyles is actually a bit like what OP playfully suggests. Except those brave souls did it on a lung full of air--no scuba. And they didn't have bang-sticks, just rubber sling spearguns.

.223 bang sticks certainly work on medium sized sharks--don't know what they would do on a real monster.
