If the Midwest group wants to put something together, by all means do so. This isn't limited to the southeast. It's just an idea to do something other than stay on the board and argue.

Thanks for the welcome, Whitworth. I'm new to the handgun thing but I recently purchased a Red Hawk in 44 Rem. Mag and I have convinced myself that I can get a deer with this one. Like everything else, practice makes perfect (in my case, better). I have tons of questions so I'm just monitoring the boards and learning; and enjoying the forum. Oh, March sound great if you guys can put up with a new handgunner.

The Redhawk is a great choice and one of my personal favorites! I hope you do use it on deer this year. Are you practicing with it? We'll look forward to hunting with you!

I am practicing but I am learning also. As my brother-in-law is so fond of saying "if you gona be dumb, you gotta be tough" Three weeks ago I was shooting off my bench over sandbags and somehow managed to get the fleshy part of my left thumb between the pistol butt and the bench. It was several hours later that it started to hurt. The recoil on the Red Hawk is a bit more than I expected; not unpleasant, just more. I am waiting on a new box of bullets from Midway so I can go at it again.

OLBIKER, let us know what you find out. I could probably do Tenn and Ark, or even Tx. I hate it that the panhandle of Florida is a two day drive, and after almost going down twice, I don't fly, if I can help it.

Duckhunter, try some pachmayr grips. It help me a lot!

Just remember. When shooting off a bench don't brace with your elbows. I did with my .454, and had the big black and blue marks to show for it. It was fun though...

I have a pair of snake boots, I'm a land surveyor, go figure; but you can use rubber boots also. The Lacrosse Burleys are a popular style around here. I will say the snake boots I have are more comfortable for walking long distances than my rubber boots are. Having said all that, if you have a pair of thick rubber boots you should be fine.
