anyone ever resized jacketed 38 bullets to 9mm?

I know their are resizers for cast but I have heard you can use them(gently) for jacketed as well? Anyone ever done it or heard of it?
To the guy about to post and say "why would you want to"-well I have been posting here for over 20 years and am bored this week and looking at some 38 cal gold dots and golden sabres on the bench and thats about the only reason I can think of Big Grin Actually I'd like to try some of the better expanding 38 hollowpoints in a 9mm for fun

Karl, should work fine in a Lee push-through sizer with some Imperial wax or a lanolin cream. I have sized Speer .416 bullets down to .410 in a Lee die, but that much squeezing required the use of a vise. Worked though.

Should be very easy I sized .429 to .416 one pass.

.357 to .355 child's play.

But I think I have seen data for loading .357 in 9mms just as they are.

But it has been a long time and don't even come close to recalling where.

I'm not entirely sure what sort of pressure effects might occur with jacketed 357 in 9mm. In line with what P Dog said, if I saw solid load data it can be done, I'd be interested.

Start low work up. Do you have access to a chrono? Adding to the choir,.002" isn't much unless you are at the razor's edge. Don't start in the hot zone.Best

I have shot 140gr Hornady .357 cal bullets in my 38 Super with Barstow barrel. Plus 356 sig and .355 9mm bullets. the .357 bullets were the most accurate. I did reduce the charge and work back up.

I knew a guy that shot 7mmags in
'my .300 win ---wait, that's the
wrong way. No harm done to the gun.

Hell, I wouldn't worry about .002".

Load a couple and shoot 'em and see
how it works. Unless you'll be shooting
one of those plastic guns maybe.

I tried to resize some .375's down to
.358. Had to beat the slug out of the
sizer die. Even Imperial didn't help.

I was pushing it when I did 429's to 416.

If I had to do it again use a die half way in-between to start with.

I've also had success with this; I've sized .338's down to .326 for an oddball rifle. Lots of lube and was pretty hard work on the press handle. Took some .329's to .326 and it was easy.

No matter whether you try .357 or .356 the 9mm has very little case volume so pressures can go up quickly.



as yo already know, start low and work the powder weight up very slowly.
Please post your results if you choose to go forward with this project.

Hornady used to publish data for 9mm Para using .357 bullets. Back in the 80's 9 Para wasn't as popular as now and the bullet availability was pretty scant. That said, I have used 125gr JHP .357 bullets in my 357 SIG reloads and it didn't know any difference accuracy wise. I did back off and worked up though, same powder charge as 124 grain .355 bullets.

It's not the bullet size; it is the fact that it might not chamber with a 357 bullet.
But sizing them down is easy, in fact I, just this week, made a die for sizing .308 bullets down to .2995 for a Carcano.
