Gents,

Has anyone tried either the Nosler 260gr. Partition or the Swift 265gr. A-Frame in the .460 S&W?

What were your results?

What powder / bullet combinations are you finding are working well in this caliber?

I find that Hornaday 240 XTP Mag over 45 grains of H110 to be very accurate. These chrony at 2000 FPS.

I have good results with the Hornady XTP Mags, 260 Gr Partitions and 300 gr. hard cast GC bullets.

I only use the 300 gr. Hard cast bullet now. I get great accuracy with them. I have been printing 1 inch to Sub MOA with them at 100 yards.

Here is the data I use for them all.
240 gr. Hornady XTP H110 48.0 gr. WLR 2.160
260 gr. Nosler Partition H110 45.5 gr. WLR 2.175
300 gr. Cast GC H110 40.0 gr. WLR 2.300

I have an Encore rifle setup using a ProHunter Flex Stock,20"Bullberry SW 460 Mag barrel topped with a Leupold 3x9x40 duplex reticle scope and the following bullets to load: Speer 185gr hp,200gr jhp(flying ash can);Sierra 240gr jhp;Rainier 200gr copper jacketed hp ;Hornaday 240gr jhp,250gr jhp , 300gr jhp;Cast Performance 265gr gc & 300gr gc.All can be loaded in 45lc,454casull & 460 brass.Powder H110 & W 296 I'll try some of the lighter bullets bullets and see how they perform.I already know how the cast perf 265 & 300;Sierra 240gr;Hornaday 240,250 & 300; Speer 200gr JHP performed in my 454 casull in my 15" Encore pistol & the Bullberry barrel before I had it rechambered to 460 S&W Mag.

Thanks Redhawk, I have been wondering about the heavier boolits. Someday I would like to have a .460. My friend used a factory load with a light bullet to kill a deer at 140 yd's and he destroyed the whole front end, all the meat was ruined. I would not like to be limited to light boolits for accuracy.

bfrshooter, if you go with the 300 gr. bullets, look at the cast bullets with gas checks. I don't get any leading at all. Also very little damage to the meat when shot with them. Great on bone also. I don't shoot them 200 gr. bullets. I am after accuracy over speed and good bullet performance.

I've been scrounging the sites and see the BFR's have a 1 in 20 twist that would work with very heavy boolits. S&W does not say what thier twist is. I know it is progressive. They are also using Walther barrels. Boy, it would be a hard choice to make. The price of the Smith is very high, but what a beauty it is.

Let's get some more load info for the 460 S&W. I'm all ears.
