Recently I heard a comment from Jerry Miculek that 300 gr. bullets are the most accurate in the .44 Mag. Probably his comment is directed toward his testing with S&W revolvers, but I don’t recall hearing that before.

I’ve loaded and shot more than my share of .44 Mag, but have very limited exposure to the various 300 gr. bullets. Have any of you found a noticeable improvement in accuracy of the 300 gr. bullets over other weights in S&W revolvers?

I've owned 6 different 44 mag revolves (7 ½ to 10 ½ inch barrels), I never liked the 300 grain bullets. My best accuracy comes with 240 gr. and a few of those guns shot sweet with 180 gr bullets.

My redhawks like 315gr bullets and 200's 240s

They all shoot good.

But never did a group side by side comparison.

20 + grs of 2400 245gr bullet was Elmers go to load.
I tried it and it was to hot for me.
-44 MAGNUM: Keith early settled on 22.0 grains of #2400 with his #429421 bullet for 1225 fps. out of a 4" Smith, 1400+ fps out of a 6 1/2" Smith or 7 1/2" Ruger. These are hunting handloads pure and simple, with this load taking big game all over the world.

My S&W 629 really likes 300 gr cast LFNs. At just over 1300 fps the recoil is not fun at all but they will go 2" or less @25y from a good rest.

My 629 Classic shoots inch and a half groups at 25 yds with total boredom and disdain. Everything from 180 XTPs to 300 WFN GC. I think it's the quality of the gun and the bullet, not the bullet weight.
