I have been trying to find some free time to work up loads for some rifles I have acquired over the past year and to build up a supply of ammunition for my go to rifles. I now find myself with plenty of time. It’s been a little difficult to lay in some powders due to the current demand.
I have explored most of the powder & bullet manufacturers loading data and archives here and other websites . I am a loyal Nosler Partition user for big game and Ballistic Tips for varmints and targets.I also purchased Nosler Accubonds. Curious on what you use as your favorite loads for the following powders, and Nosler bullets for the following cartridges.
The powders I have on hand are IMR7828, IMR4831, Norma MRP, Hodgdon CFE223, and H335.
Here is list of the cartridges with the bullets and powders I have available. I am also looking for a light recoil hunting/practice load for the kids/women to shoot in the 7MM/08.
In Las Vegas the Clark County Shooting Facility is shut down, so will probably have to wait awhile to do the testing.
Would prefer loads that the user has run across a chronograph.

Either powder you have works great. For 55 gr bullets, 27.8 CFE or 25 H335 works great. IIRC CFE gave me 3350, but that is with Hornady SPs.

My .300 H&H load is 73.5 grains of IMR7828SSC under a 180 Accubond for 2960 fps. You can push it over 3,000 if you want, but I like the "traditional" velocity with the H&H

H335 with 26 grains under a 55 grain or a bit more with the lighter bullets.

Well, these "pistol" powders are too fast for a 140, but you can work up a decent load with the 125 Partition with 7828 or MRP. IMR 4831 is way too fast for even the 125.

Don't have one so no advice, but CFE223 might be your best bet.

STONECREEK,
Thanks!
Yes, I like the more traditional loads too.
I couldn’t agree with you more about the 2950fps with the 180grain Nosler in the 300H&H. I have found that velocity is kind of a sweet spot in several of my hunting rifles in different calibers.
Thanks for the H335 55 grain load for the .223.

AZ,
Thank you for the specific .223 loadings for the CFE and H335. That is exactly what I am looking for.

YW. For my high volume rounds (.204, .223, .243) I use spherical powders only because they meter so well. Yea, some finer grain extruded powders meter well too, but you can't beat spherical.

Those powders are way too slow for the 7mm-08. The best powders for the 08 cartridge is Varget, W748, IMR4064 and H4350.

I haven't loaded your specific bullet but with Sierra 140gr SP and Hornady 139gr SST bullets I get very good accuracy and velocity up to 2900fps in 24" barrels with these powders. Even my sons suppressed 20" barreled Weatherby Vanguard 7mm-08 will hit 2800fps with safe loads of Varget and my own 22" barreled Marlin will do similar with Varget and a good 3000fps with same powder and Sierra 120gr bullets. The latter is a easy load to shoot recoil wise.

Loads with slow powder just produce more recoil. Better to use slightly reduced charges of the medium burn rate powders for a little reduction in velocity to give reduced recoil in the 7mm-08.

Thanks Eagle for the 7mm/08 loadings.I have never loaded Varget. You have some experience with the round. We have only whitetail hunted with factory Federal Supreme with 140grain Nosler Partitions with great results. It’s a great round and one young hunters can shoot pretty easy. Will try the low recoil loading for the new shooters off the bench.

No problem. The load below gives me a consistent average MV of 3025fps out of my 22" barreled Marlin XS. For learners you could drop 2 or 3 grains of powder. There is a noticeable difference in recoil between the 120gr bullet load and a 140gr bullet load, not that the 7mm-08 is a kicker by any stretch of imagination.

120gr Sierra Pro Hunter
AR2208 powder
45.0 grs load
Win LR primer
FC case
COL - 2.735"

AR2208 as we know it is Varget, just a name change for Hodgdons American market

Well. one way to look at this current situation is that it gives us time to visit the reloading room as well as a lot of reading. Sucks I know but it's better to take the time + do what we couldn't before + pretend its a vacation. Besides after the smoke clears you will haVE BEAUCOUP OF LOADED AMMO.

Never mistake motion for action.
