Most accurate 223 powder?
What has been your most accurate 223 powder? Winchester 748, Varget, others?

Mine has been AA2230; 24.0g under a Sierra 52BTHP in my 700VS. Around .4-.5 inch groups with factory trigger. Recently had the trigger worked but have not had a chance to see what this will do to the groupings.

I've had the best results with benchmark and H335, Jay

Benchmark for light bullets, H 380 for all bullets, RL 15 for mid to heavier bullets have been my experience in 6 different bolt guns.

For across the board on all bullet weights, IMR 4198, H 4198 and RL 7.

Accurate? The only .223 I've got is a Mini-14!

If a 52 Sierra won't shoot over H335, something's wrong.

Almost any reasonable load works in .223. I've had good luck with IMR3031, H335, IMR4895, AA2520, AA4064 and probably some others I've forgotten. Hard to go wrong.

28 grains of 748 under a 40 grain V MAX works very well in my Ruger #1V.

Here is another vote for Benchmark.

Prior to Benchmark, H4895 and H322 provided my best 223Rem accuracy. WW-748 and BL-C2 gave a bit more velocity, but loosened the groups just a bit.

No argument with anyone who saw the exact opposite though, since what a particular firearm shoots the best is not always the same as another one.

I've had good luck with Win 748, IMR4895, H335, and Varget.

To simplify things though, I've settled on Varget. It shoots great in my 223's, as well as a handful of other rifles. I buy an 8 lb jug & load most everything...

AA2230 has give me the best groups in both a AR15 and a Bolt Action rifle. Lots of powders will work, but the AA2230 seems to get the job done! Good Luck

N-133 under any 55 grainer, close to the VV max load (which is far above other published loads). Speed and accuracy. FWIW, Dutch.

Many powders work well with the .223, but H-335 (and its near clones, WC-844 and AA 2230) seem to provide the best velocity/pressure ratios. That's the powder I try unless I found something markedly better in a particular gun.

H-335 with 40 to 50 gr bullets. W-748 or IMR-3031 with 55 gr bullets. That's just my experience, but I've got a jar of BLC-2 to try out.

You might try Natchez. They have Accurate 2230C Data powder avaliable in 8 lb. jugs for $63.95. This is just a slight bit slower than AA 2230, and the same loading data can be used. This stuff works great in .308 Win. also. Bill T.

Accurate's AA2015BR is unbeatable with 50-53 grainers. That's the "old" 2105; haven't really wrung out the new XMR2015 yet.

As you can see, there are lots of good loads for the .223. I've had some excellent loads with W748, BL-C(2) and Varget, but the one I'd bet the farm on is H322. It is the most consistent and repeatable powder I've used. I use mostly Winchester brass trimmed to 1.750", neck turned to "take off the high spots" and flash hole cleaned and uniformed; CCI 400 primers. 40-gr. V-Max's over 25.5 gr.; 52 gr. Sierra HPBT Match with 24.5 gr. are awesome shooters in my three .223's.

I guess if one had to pick one powder for a variety of bullet weights and both bolt and gas actions, it would be AA2230. Paradoxically, its also the best for the 458 Win Mag!!

With 55 gr Vmax I get better accuracy from IMR4895Bulk overloads and better velocity from H-335 overloads.

Surplus WC846 (BLc2 type loading) has been the most accurate powder so far, but it do change burn rates from lot to lot. Of the normal over the counter powders I've had the best luck with Varget from four different AR-15 rifle barrels and bullets from 52 to 80 grains.
