case saver swage worth it?
hey i've got about 50 pieces of rem .243 brass thats getting some loose primer pockets, would this tool http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?s...id=911104&t=11082005 be worth buying? obviously it costs about double what 50 .243 rem brass do, but would it pay off int the long run? really that useful and effective? thanks!

Roll EyesI don't know but I'm going to watch the responses you get to determine if I'll buy one or not. Winkroger

Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

You'd be far better off fixing the cause of the loose primer pockets.....buy new brass and reduce your loads a couple grains!

Very good advice.Smiler

Fix the problem that's causing the primer pockets to open up and use that $44 to buy other stuff.

The Brass Saver is one of those things that seem like a good idea at the time - until you actually try to use one.

But that's just my own humble farm-boy opinion.

I suppose it's not really fair to tell somebody not to use a product without explaining why. So . . .

I have one and tried it. It took me about 20 cases to figure out exactly how hard to whack that punch so that the pocket closed just right. Too many whacks and you couldn't seat a primer. Too few whacks and the primer was still loose.

That's when I gave up.

I talked to a friend who has one and tried it on his 300 Ackley. After he figured out how many whacks that magnum case took, he fixed a whole bunch of brass. Reloaded, fired them with his old load, and guess what? You're right! Pockets loosened again.

Now you know. But don't let me talk you out of it.
