Well,

It has been a long road to get to this point, but I was giving H1000 and IMR 7828 the last opportunity to get my gun to shoot the new Scirocco II's. Honestly, I wasn't holding out a lot of hope, and admittedly two, three shot groups does not a good load prove, but here is what I got out of the H1000 Saturday morning. I started at 81.0 grains and had loadings up to 83.5 grains. My gun maxed out at 82.0...82.5 was a little stiff in the bolt. I didn't chrono the 81.0 or the 81.5 grain loads but I did chrono 82.0 (3125, 3125, and 3074). I am going to load up 9 each of 80.5, 81.0, and 81.5 and shoot 3, 3 shot groups with each to see what I can derive from that.

Finally, some hope Smiler

For what it is worth, IMR 7828 gave me exceptional velocities, but I might as well have been shooting a shotgun.

300 I am suprised that the 7828 didn't perform for you, but that's to the individual character of the rifle. I assume the range is 100 yards or so, and glad you are getting some performance.

Yes,

The range was 100 yards.

I wasn't terribly surprised at the 7828...all the other powders up to this point have done the same thing to one degree or another. I have tried IMR 4831, RL 22, H1000 and IMR 7828 now, with H1000 being the only one to show any promise at all.

300, I am not surprised with your results. I too, am facing the same difficulties at the current moment. I have tried most of the powders you have listed with poor results with a 180 gr. partition. In a last ditch effort to get my gun to shoot, I am going to give IMR4350 and AA3100 a try. Don't know about the IMR, but several shooters on benchrest central swear by 73 gr AA3100 and the 180. I'll let you know how it does in my gun.

Hank, It appears that maybe you missed this in my post beer

I haven't had the glowing experiences others have had with that powder. Maxed out my .257 Weatherby with 100 tsx's at 3,400 fps. What a dissappointment. Groups with my .300 Winnie were nothing to write home about either. Both H1000 and IMR 4831 out did it with the Scirocco II's.

300Winnie:

I would suggest you try Bob Hagels' favorite load 78.5 H-4831 with the 180 Schirocco. They shoot under .5 five shot group at 100yards. They run 3150fps in my gun. I loaded to within .01 grains and got 16fps spread in velosity over 100 rounds. I use the same load with Partitions too. I recomend you start at least 1 grain lighter. This is a pretty hot load. Great for mice to moose.

Doc,

I have some RL 25 on hand (1 lb). However, I don't have any loading information for it. Do you have any data, and if so, would you be willing to share it?

Thanks.

No, sorry. I don't load for the 300win anymore. When I was at the range there were a couple of guys there shooting a 300 with 180s and a 7mag with 175s and the only powder they were trying was RL25. I was very impressed with the results, and so were they.

Looking at various websites with data, looks like the average starting load for a 180 bullet is roughly 75-76 grains and topping out around 83 grains.

My plan is to try it in my 7mag this year.

Off the track a little, but I worked up a pretty accurate load for my 300 Win Mag yesterday using IMR 7828 and 180 grain Barnes MRX's. 75 grains is as high as I have went. I have not chronographed the load yet. I did not have any pressure signs.
