50-90 sharps smokeless loads
Anyone have a source for smokeless loads in a single shot 50-90. This is a new built Win falling block, not a 100 plus year old gun.
Thanks

Accurate's #1 Loading Guide has smokleless load data. What bullet weight do you plan on using? I'll post data here if you want.

My book is a bit older ('94). If you need data for other powders, LMK. In addition to 5744, it has load data using 4350, 3100, and 8700.

am thinking of 450 grain cast bullets.
Actually I don't own the gun yet, but am doing research on the advisability of owning this gun/cartridge and shooting smokeless. I am looking at a modern day production gun. Have read some articles that warned of chamber ringing with smokeless.
If you guys load this cartridge with smokeless, do you use any fillers or do you just use the smokeless charge and seat the bullet.

I do shoot a 45-70 with smokeless with great results.

From Accurate Loading Guide Number One,

440 lead flat nosed:

72.0 - 80.0 gr 4350
76.5 - 85.0 gr 3100 (compressed)
76.5 - 85.0 gr 8700 (compressed)

This data is intended only for firearms safe for use with smokeless propellants.

The black powder shooters tend to spread garbage like this about the 45-70 too.
If you stay away from pistol powders and use fast burning rifle powders you will not ring a chamber.
Use 4227, 4759 and 5744 on the fast side.
You can use powders like 4198 and 3031 on up to 4895 but you will be shooting loads that have a low fun factor with the high recoil level.
