People say there are no dumb questions. But I am about to prove them
wrong. This is the guestion . If you have a col of 2.899 and you are
wanting to take 50 thousanths away from this what would your new
meausurment be? Dumb I know , but here is why I ask.I have been having
some trouble getting the col for my rifle. I feel I am not reading
my caliper right. I have only been loading for a short time and have been told so many things that I feel like I have been drop on my head.
I am also sure this is why I can not find a good load for my rifle. So
if someone would please give me a quick leason on decimal points it
help alot. Or maybe I should move to the front of the class and put
the pointy hat on . Thanks

7 MAG,
I need to ask. why are you asking about fifty thousands?
If you are looking to move your bullet closer to the lands then removing 0.050 would actually add to the COL which is then 2.949."
Not sure what you are trying to obtain, could you give us some more about what you are wanting to do here?

I am using Barnes and after talking to them 0.050 is where they said I
should start. I am using a stonety point gauge. It just seems that I can
not get to a point where I have any kind of group to start with. I do have other books to go by and several powders , primers and bullets. I just feel there is something I am missing. So if any of you can point me down the right road it sure would help. Thanks

7 mag. Generally playing with the OAL is used to fine tune a load that you already have seen shows promise. If you don't have a group to start off with then I suspect that you have some other problems eg. scope mount, action screws etc.

SOmething else to concider when using Barnes. They like to be shot from clean bbls. to start. If you have been shooting gilding metal, reg. ole cup core bullets, clean the bbl. well. Then start your load dev. Your rifle may just not like Barnes bullets, most of mine don't. I am going to give the newer TSX a try in my .338-06, but just this once. Wink
