I have decidec that my custom will be a 280. I decided that the extra 100fps or so just wasn't worth the hassel. It'll have a 26" barrel. I have probably 5lbs of H4350 and can borrow some RL22. I will shoot 139-150gn bullets in this gun. My prefference is 140 BTs/ABs. I hope to get 3100fps with it but am not a real hot rodder, so if I can only get 3050fps It'll be ok. I might 'push' this one just a little to match 270 pressures, but not much. With these two powders, h4350 and RL22, what powder would you recommend to try also.thanks, capt david troll

Using the 140 gr. bullets.
I'd say you'll get around 2900 + with IMR 4350.
RL19 would get you close to 3150 fps.

Any of those powders will work great. Just work loads for accuracy with them.

RL19 & H4350 gave me so-so accuracy in my 23" PacNor bbl. .280. For pushing it w/ good accuracy powders start at IMR4831 & go slower. With a 26" bbl. you should easily hit 3100fps w/ a 140gr bullet & RL22. Best accuracy in my rifle @ 3050fps is H4831sc & IMR7828, Norma brass & Fed210M primers.

Roll EyesPersonally I think there are a whole lot of loaders passing up a great thing by not stocking up on accurate data 86. The .280 with the heavier bullets is a perfect canadate. I have no vested interest in the stuff but everyone so far has had some splendifferous results and it isn't easy to overload. Try it . you'll like it. thumb BOOMroger

4350 of your choice of brands. I used the same bullets as you but never tried to motor mine over @ 2900fps.

Rem. 700 Mtn .280 ... 22"

I am loading 55gr H4350 behind 140 TSX, Rem Brass, F210GM, .05 off lands. .75-.80 3 shot groups at about 2985. Worked just fine last deer season.

Have some H4831 loaded for range testing comparison, just need to get to the range.

I'm currently working up laods for a new .280. H4350 (and IMR 4895) has not been a winner yet with 100, 140 and 150 grain Sierra or 150 grain Nosler BT's. Nothing will consistently stay under 1.5", and velocities in my 22" Ruger factory barrel is running well below 2900!

I'm moving to slower powders. Next up, H4831SC and VN560.

Good luck with yours!
