I would like to give RL-19 a try in my 30-06. I'm mainly loading a 165gr Sierra Gameking. Anybody had much success with this powder in the '06?
Thanks

RL-19 From 49.7 grains to 62.1 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

But it is definately not my choice!

I prefer:
IMR-4350 From 47.5 grains to 59.0 grains
Winchester WLR Primer

Excellent powder and bullet for the 3006. With the 165 Sierra I shoot 56.0 grains.

My favorite 30-06 loads are with IMR 4350 using 57.5 with the same bullet using Fed 210 Match primers in WW cases.

180 SBT- 56.0 of IMR 4350
165 SBT- 57.5 of IMR 4350

Thanks for the responses. I have had good luck with IMR4350 in the '06. I just have a couple of #'s of RL-19 and thought I'd give it a go.

I am with K-22 on this one, I use the exact combo in my '06 (Barnes 168 TSX and R-19) and get great velocity and very good accuracy. I beleive it to be a wonderful powder for this catridge.

It is an excellent powder for the .06. However, I'm siding with Ricciardelli on the IMR4350.

But my 30.06 is currently on a H4350 diet with the 168 TSX. I've not tried the Re19 yet with that bullet. No need I guess. I'm getting .4 groups right now.

I have had good luck with RL-19 using 180 grain bullets, but IMR4350 won out with the 165 grain bullets for me.

Well said.

Another good powder is H-414

It shoots well with 150 grains and especially 180 grain bullets. For the former I was recommended to use a faster powder, however, the RL19 also works well in the 6 mm Remington and the .338 WM. Since we are limited regarding the storage quantity of powder, this is for me a convenience.

Agree

4350 for 165 or 168
RL19 for 180
RL22 for 200

RL-19 is an acceptable propellent with 165's in the 30-06, but I think it's a better choice to use it with 150gr bullets

My favorite propellant with 165's in the '06? RL-22

I shoot mostly Nosler BallisticTips out of my Rem700 and my pet load for this rifle is 62.5gr of RL22.

this is 0.5gr off of Noslers published Maximum and is a compressed charge in FL sized Cases, In neck sized
cases I don't need to vibrate the propellant into the case

Across my Chrony this load came out at 3010fps@10ft
in 45degree ambient air. and somewhat faster in warmer temps.
I never got to try it in usual hunting temps of 20'F
before my brother put a bullet end-to-end through my Chrony.

I just hope the new 24" stainless barrel likes this load as much as the old 22" CM barrel does.

RL22 is probably the best propellant for the 30-06 with bullet weights 165gr and up.

Comments on spherical powders in the .30-06? I find that the powder recommendations of R22, 4350,
etc. give me problems loading the case up without compressing the powders...my limitation is the magazine length & longish plastic tip bullets...so with tubular type powders, I can't get enough in the case for max velocity...but spherical powders fit better...anyone have this problem/situation?
Right now I'm trying "Varget" which seems to work OK, but have not done a lot of experimentation yet.
Thanks, Tom

I use Varget in my auto....Browning BAR and 742....30-06 with 47.0 of Varget with 180 Noslers. In a good stong bolt action I suggest the RL 19 or IMR 4350. Ideal powder case capacity is high 90%.....my rifles prefer a full case. Exception are my auto's where I have to use a Mid burning powder because of the pressure curve to operate the action. If you are shooting a bolt I suggest the 4350's or RL 19.....time proven over the years.

I would like to use Barnes bullets in the 130-150 grs range in my .30-06. The powder I hqve is Norma 204 (equivalent to RL19).
I would be grateful for suggested loads but, please, don't propose different bullets and/or powders.
Thanks in advance

RL-22 and H414 is your best powder in the 30-06. RL-19 is second.. IMR-4350 is popular but you cut grain with it in your powder measure and 4831 and you have to weigh each case whereas the RL-powders meter extremely accurate out of your powder measure and depending on your skills as to how many in a 100 you will need to weigh weigh.I no longer bother weighing with the RL powders I use..

I recently loaded my .30-06 with TTSX 150 grs and Norma 203 B C (51,5 grs).
The accuracy was great as well as the recoil. Moreover, the neck was blackened.
Tomorrow I will try the same recipe but with Norma 203 B C reduced to 49,5 grs, as well as Barnes TSX 130 grs with 54,0 grains of Norma 203 B C.
Any suggestions?

203B is RL-15 just in a different bottle..Black neck indicates not enough powder..work up a grain at a time, you probably have a ways to go. Check your reloading book.
