Has anyone heard of spontaneous combustion for powder storage?

If so -- then will mid ninety temps and high humidity accelerate the reaction.

What is the optimal temp for storage.

How about older powders - will they react more quickly.

It's worth looking at SAAMI's publication on smokeless powders, which includes optimal storage conditions. If stored under such conditions, smokeless powder will last decades without degrading.

About spontaneous combustion . . . I don't have a clue. I've never heard of a case, but then I haven't really searched for one either.

The only spontaneous combustion I have ever experienced with smokeless powder is when my wife blows up at me for bringing more home!

The only time the powder can ignite by itself is IF it was improperly made and the acid was not neutralized properly.
I've seen it ONE time in 60 years of reloading and it was know-to-be-bad pulled military surplus powder that was not mine.
The powder was fuming and generating heat.
It did not catch fire.
