Do any of you gentlemen have this problem: ammo and supplies for firearms that are long gone? I did a major cleaning of the gun room a few days ago. Below is a pic of extra stuff I found in cabinets and boxes I no longer have rifles for or have rifles I am not shooting as they are spoken for, It’s amazing how much stuff accumulates!! The spring, summer, and now the fall guns shows are cancelled due to the virus so I guess it will sit awhile.

I never sell anything.

Everyone who has anything they do not want bring it here.

Example, had a whole stack of 8x57 ammo brought in.

Turns out was made in Egypt 113 years ago!!

I have old rifles for this cartridge, but never use them.

So I thought of trying something.

I removed the bullets and powder from a whole case of ammo.

Powder was flake??!!

Never seen flake powder in a rifle cartridge before.

And knowing where it came from, I tried it in the 308 Winchester, 7-08 Remington and 6mm Norma .

Worked like a charm, with excellent accuracy.

Was also give a box of naval flares, expired over 20 years ago.

We opened them up - they were 4 different types.

Powder was smokeless, so we mixed the lot.

I use it for light loads in the 357 Magnum and 44 Magnum revolvers.

Again, works like a charm.

My friend from the navy who brought them never stops telling people what they ended up for, instead of being destroyed! clap

If you never sell a gun, you won't have that problem.

And I too, have "leftovers". I hang on to them, "just in case"...

Neither I, nor anyone I know, ever sells anything that may deemed by others to be surplus.
It makes for a better Estate Sale when you die. Then someone else will repeat the cycle.
Nothing to worry about. Keep hoarding. I even keep old barrels, (300 by now at least), WW2 jeep parts, and scrap iron. Ammo, etc. It doesn't go bad.
I tell guys who want exorbitant prices for stuff, no problem, I'll get it from your widow.

I have masses of reloading surplus - mostly for reloading shotgun rounds.

Also have some 7X61 S&H dies and brass that I have kept for many years. Dunno why since that rifle is now a 7mm RM.

I'd look through all the stacks of stuff in the shop and garage but I don't want to disturb the trilobites.

Cal:

You have too much free time on your hands!
Very nice the way you have things sorted out
and "displayed" so you can find 'em.

I have a 20' x 50' shop things have piled up
til the only trail thru one side keeps caving
in. Must be 2-3 ton of 4' or less steel under
the bench. Ohh, the bench is 34' long and it'd
take half hour to find the top of it!

Friend has said my bench's are at the:
"angle of repose".

Cal,
Just the ammo I have loaded up and if I shot 1000 rounds a day I couldn't shoot it all up before I die, and I could say the same for when I was half my present age..Thats just ammo not counting gunsmithing tools or loading tools. I have a 150 screw drivers made up into scrapers, if Im stocking a rifle and can't find a proper scraper I grab a screw driver and grind it to fit the project, I buy old screw drivers for 25 to 50 cents apiece in pawn shops. The oldest ones are good steel, I use old hacksaw blades teeth ground flat, for scrapers, and old files..about all it accomplishes these days is Im getting my monies worth out of them and they can't be beat for shaping and cut smooth as a babys butt and sanding time is cut to more than half..Shop is a pile of junk but I know where every thing is!! rotflmo

I know the feeling! shocker
