Can some one enlighten me as to bullet hardness....a bullet that comes in at a BNH of say 15 how much harder will it be then one coming in at an BNH of 12

i try to keep my pistol rds, 44, 45 acp and 45 colt etc at around 8-10. rifle, 308, 30-06, 30-30 at around 12 to 14. BUT, i don't i don't load my cast loads too hot. most that i know cast their rifle bullets at around 18. but that varies widely with the user. don't know if this is what you were after or not.

My powder coated 7.62x39 rifle bullets are loaded to over 2200fps and are cast at 15BNH. No visible sigms of leading after 30 shots

i fired a dozen or so @a BNH of 12 powder coated a few years ago and got groups of a touch above an inch at over 2000 with the 416....once the weather cools down im going to try some of my plain base 400 gn 416 bullets @ 2100 and see what happens

The Brinell Hardness Numbers are a linear scale.
So 10BHN is twice as hard a 5BHN.
And your 15BHN bullets are 25% harder than your 12BHN.

I had a .38 SWC mold of Lee's the hinges got
loose on after about 25 gallons of bullets
from it.

Sent it back for their half price fix it warranty. They replaced the blocks, same price.

I sent some bullets along and asked them to
check the hardness. They said about 8.9bh.

That's range scrap.

I've found some batches I can scratch with a
thumb nail and some I can't. I stamp L on the
softer ones to use for BP. The rest go for
pistol bullets,
