I'm sure most of the folks here have alot of bullets they'd like to try, but don't have nearly as many molds as they'd like, as the ole funds run scarce. So, I thought I'd propose a swap thread. List the molds you have, and what bullets you are interested in trying. We should be able to work out a trade or two, postage on 100 bullets will be much less then even a Lee mold [Big Grin]

I'll start out, these are the molds that I can think of: (all bullets plain base unless noted with gc)

.266" 160 gr gc (6.5 Oldfeller)

.309" 115gr lee gc

.358" 150 gr rf, 158 gr swc gc, 200 gr WFN gc, 260 gr rf gc.

.451" 280 gr rf, 300 gr SWC gc, 300 gr LFN gc, 340 gr XFN gc.

.476" 310 gr LFN, 400 gr rf, 460 gr WFN gc.

.490" round ball

.500" 250 gr REAL

.512" 350 gr Lymann, 470 gr LFN gc.

Interested in 170-200 gr .309"

For a limited time I have in my posession a bunch of molds from www.mountainmolds.com for 454 .4" nose.

Included are Ogival flatpoint in:
70% GC 330gn
70% PB 340gn
70% GC bore rider
80% GC 335gn
90% GC 340gn

70% SWC GC 330gn
70% Truncated Cone 330gn
weights are rounded.
I would be happy to make some for anyone who wants to try them.
I have them all loaded up for a trip to the range, but my back went out on me going to NAPA for some locktight. I"ll have to make it to the range another day.

I'd be interested in trying some of 475/480's
.452 375 LFNGC. How long is the nose on that? My Taurus will only take a .4" nose.

This sounds like a very good plan to me. Let me round up what I have and I'll post it when I have it all together.

I'd be interested in trying some of the .476" bullets, 300 wfngc and 500 lfngc. Lemme know what you'd be interested in for trade.

475/480,

No hurry on the swap. The 500 gr might just be too long for the 480 anywho. I know if I seat my 460 gr WFN to the canalure, the gc bulges the case out, and thus I have to seat to the first lube groove. I'd imagine the 500 gr LFN would be longer still [Eek!]

Anyhow, I'm going to do a lube test in the 480, which will keep me busy casting and shooting for the next few weeks. I have 1/2 dozen different lubes I want to try to see the effects on accuracy. I also need to try the 358 260 in my 350 Ribgy.

Paul, I'd be interested in your lube tests. I'm going to redo mine now that the weather is warmer.
I was really surprized at the huge difference I saw.

I compared RCBS pistol lube, appache blue, and I think lee tumble lube once before. The RCBS shot like crap, the tumble lube was ok, and the appache was the best.

This time the test will be LBT blue, Appache Blue, ?commercial blue, ?commercial white, Lee tumble lube, and home made 50/50 beeswax/lythium moly greese. I'll fire 3 gas checked bullets down the tube to condition the bore, then run two 5 shot strings. I'll be using the Lee 500 gr plainbase over ~21 gr Lil gun for 1200 fps. I figure this load produces at least 40 kpsi, and the Lee bullet doesn't hold alot of lube. I figure this will be a sufficiently challenging tests for the lubes.

Paul -

If you get the chance, you might want to contact Magma down in Queen Creek, AZ for some of their hard wax lube to try too.

They sell a lot of it to various commercial bullet-makers, and will also make it in just about any colour you fancy.

As a forum head, you probably will be offered a few sticks free, just to test.

If it turns out you like it, they have very good prices on it in quantity.

I've got another mold to add to the list. My shooting buddy, who I cast for, ordered a .476" 400 gr bullet for the 480, it has a 75% meplat, which put's it on par with the Lee design, and the crimp to meplat is .51", so it'll only fit in a 480, also it is a gas check bullet. It should provide ~.05" more case capacity then the lee bullet seated to the rear canalure. I don't think this will make much difference in speed capability, and assume that 21 gr Lil gun or H-110 will still produce ~1200 fps.
