Well, after 5 hours under the knife, "georgeld" is doing as well as can be expected and right now is not having any pain. For the moment, he has a pain med pump to keep him comfortable.

I sure hope the doctors have it right this time and that things can get back to normal for him. Hopefully he'll be back home soon and posting here on the forum before long.

George is completely free of any medical attachments -- no pumps, drains, etc -- and has been taking walks. They aren't letting the poor guy sleep much, though!

So far, no word on a release date.

Howdy guys:;
Thanks for all the good wishes.

Got home 3pm Sat totally worn out from lack of sleep mostly. So far, almost no pain. First time
in at least 8 years.

Not much space to walk at home. 40' to the front walk, then 63' across the front. Made three trips, two passes each today.

Way too hot to make a trip to W/M as we wanted. Then I had 3-4 hours of dizzy spell. Believe it was from lack of eating enough. Neighbor lady Jen is taking care of me and brought over a big cup of fresh strawberries. I ate them, then laid down for 2 hr nap. Was cleared up then.

She changed pads on it today and took a picture. Bobby has it, UGLY mess about a foot long.

The only time I had a chance to sleep was 3 hours early Friday, of course that's the only time the doc came in and couldn't wake me. Don't really know what he did yet. Know what we'd talked about so expect that's most of it.

Nice to feel like you guys care, thank you all.

Kill some hogs for me!!

George

Been slow to post here -- been having a few rather rough days in a row. Anyway, George finally got some decent rest -- said he slept like a rock! -- and is in the early healing stages. He says so far the pain level is not bad -- about a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Lots of folks here are pulling for you, George, and wishing you the speediest of recoveries.

Damn that's UGLY!!!

That lump on the L side is the
TENS implant. Don't look like they
moved it down as I asked. Out of
reach to recharge the battery.

Thanks Bobby, maybe I shouldn't have
sent that out!

Wow, that's a nasty scar, George. My first two lumbar fusions were from the left side -- "Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion," or XLIF. Have a two-inch scar on my left. Then the laminectomy that failed, followed by the L4-5 fusion that isn't working too well left me with one two-inch scar through the lower back -- glued shut in both cases.

Thanks again Bobby:

This xray is from the front, TENS is on the L
side.

That kink was causing one hell of a pinched
nerve for the past couple years. This year
it's been bad enough to have it fixed.

Third time thru the same cut.

Looks like ten or a dozen less staples than
he put in my R knee in Jan. Figured there'd
be more with this.

Doing ok now, naps and pills help.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the good wishes.

IF these are too gorry for you,
say so and we'll take 'em down.

I'm hoping sharing these will convince you to
take care of your backs so you don't have to
go thru this too. Amazing how many bad backs
there are. In the past 16 years I've dated a
whole bunch of gals, either 8 or 9 had back
surgery.
One I saw her scar and asked "what happened?"
"my "EX" pushed me off the porch".

Might be time to update a bit.
Almost two weeks now.

Am doing real well still.
Taking the short walks, drove the car
a few miles to the new KFC. They're open
but, must be giving it away from all the cars
lined up. Jeeze, no way that little building
could possibly hold that much chicken!
Gave it up and drove across the way to Wendy's.
They've been selling 50pc nuggets for ten bucks.
I can make three meals out of them and make the
dog happy too.

Couple times the back has gotten pretty rough.
This evening was one. Hired help broke the rope
on the mower today, once he got it retied. It
would start then die.
Once it cooled in the shade I went out to see what it would take to fix it.
in over 55 years I've never had water in
a mower's gas tank. Rolled it over and dumped it.
LOT's of water. He either poured it in or
left the cap off for the rain.
Borrowed the neighbors mower.
Now if he'll show up tomorrow and don't break hers too!

Sure suffered for that 45 minutes play time.
Big pill helped but, sure didn't FIX it all.

This being kicked back for 8 years now really
sucks. Long past the point of cabin fever attack.

Am trying though. Will likely go over and have
the staples taken out yet this week, or next
for sure.

Appreciate all the good wishes and prayers etc.
Great to see some hogs getting killed too.

George

George, sorry you had to do lawnmower rescue so soon after your surgery. Hope those staples come out with minimal pain and fuss!
Going in for another round of "dry needling" this morning in hopes of relief from my own back and leg pain. No darned fun.

Thanks Bill.

Called the office yesterday to book
the followup appt.
Want to talk to the doc himself. He
was supposed to save me all the hardware
he took out. Said he would. Should be at
least the two old rods he replaced with
longer one's. Doubt anything else came out.

Would have gone in to see his sub and CNA
to take the staples out. Going next Tues @ 3.
Other than wanting to talk to him about what
he did to me they'd been fine.

Jen took the patch off yesterday and it looked
clean as a new one. No leaks, just a slight bruise that's nearly cleared up.

Good luck with the needles. They didn't do me a bit
of good the dozen or twenty times I went thru it. Neither did the ablations.

Bought the parts to fix the mower today.
Except the gas feeder/sucker tube to the carb.
The guy said I'd have to replace the carb
for $40 whenever that tube plugs up it ruins
the carb" "my A--!" Replaced it about ten yrs
ago and been fine til now. The tube just screws
in, no big deal. Need to find a source as he
wouldn't sell me just that tube. I know enough
about these things to know better. The fix is
no big deal. Hardest part will be putting the
new rope in. Those springs are a PITA.

Back worked me over today again, hard. Too many
pills to get it under control.
