Hogs had been in the trap for the last 9 nights so I set the trap--thinking this is a sure thing. NOT! Trap was undisturbed this morning. Oh well, I'll get them tonight - I actually laid a "golden trail" from the adjacent feeder to the trap door. I'll get 'em tonight -- or tomorrow night.

Report to follow---

Well, they were in the trap last night--9 of them, but they didn't trip the gate. It isn't set for tonight---but will reset Sunday night.

This isn't the trap they have been regulars at, but the other one east of here--about 3 weeks ago I trapped 6 here and this is the first group to return. Also the largest group I remember seeing at this ranch. Now to get them coming regular and get the big fattie sow before she dominoes.

Did you forget the all important corn arrow leading into the entrance? Be Well, Packy.

Packy--when I set the trap, it is always with a golden trail leading to the entrance and a generous layout inside, especially around the trip rope.

Well, it's a "ready, set, go" situation now. hopefully the gang will show and trip the trap tonight, or tomorrow, or Friday. That mower tire is filled with corn and there is a bunch under it---and, it is resting against the trip rope!!! tu2

Hmm, I have a pair of mower tires just like
that one. You want 'em?

Good looking setup less pigs of course.

Checked yesterday and the gate was down but no pigs. Winds were 25-30 mph and might have had the trip rope moving enough to drop the gates.

Today, nada. Left it set and if nothing tomorrow, I will give it a break. I surely expected a quick catch with them being in the trap 9 nights in succession--

Went for a sit with the bow and 12-ga tonight, intending to sit in the bow stand and stick a solo with the bow or use the 12-ga if a sounder showed. Well, it was a bit chillier than I planned and very windy too, so I sat in the truck. After about an hour, thought I heard a squeal, then about 15 minutes later this medium solo boar showed, and died. About 120-130 lbs est.

Amazing how hard they go down from a brain leak too--

By golly you still know how to do it!

Well, that sounder above or a good-sized solo boar has been in the trap 9 of the last 11 nights so it’s set and I’m hoping to get a call from the “trap checker/landowner in the AM. Regardless, I will be out with the bow or thermal at my local spot.

Well--let's just say the plan worked!

Had a bit of a traffic jam at the gate--

9 boars, 14 sows, and the big girl lost her backstraps but had 7 buns in the oven

This a tie for the largest catch in a single trap by me.

Three trips from the trap to the buzzard buffet, and hard to believe but the knife stayed on the bumper during the last trip-- tu2

That sure looks like some farmers
hog raising pen.

Nice "harvest" Dusty. This should thin the herd
a bit.

Again, wish it wasn't so far down there.
I'd like to put some of those back straps
in the freezer.

Thanks for sharing.

Jack is trying to get me started gathering things up and head down that way for a couple weeks.

I'm not ready healthwise yet. Likely won't ever
be again.

Have been wondering if it would be worth the
trip. and where we might could find some hogs
and shooting once there.

Any suggestions? If you don't want to put it up
where everyone can see it, send a pm or by e'mail. gldwight1@yahoo

To save expenses, I'd want to drag my camp trailer along and bring a small freezer run by
generator.

Would appreciate any suggestions anyone might
be willing to share.

Thanks much,
George
