Well, deer season is over and my landowner is clamoring for me to get out and start working on the hogs again--so I went. Last week I filled the trap feeder and my sit-site feeder, and installed the cameras. I intended to put up the light too but my rememberer got the ladder and tools, but not the light Big Grin I checked the camera and there had been 4 smallish-medium hogs at the feeder the night before--so last night the winds were perfect and I went for a sit. I sat in the truck, rifle rested on the driver's mirror. About 11:00 a screech owl let out its call from the tree behind me and that brought me wide awake and alert. I picked up the thermal scanner and did a quick sweep for a mountain lion or Sasquatch--just to be sure. And, what did I see behind me in the coastal but the 1 pig out of 50 brave enough or dumb enough to come on my side of the fence. I'm a lefty and the hog was hard, hard left of me and headed cross-wind into my scent stream so I switched the rifle to my right shoulder and got set. Hog stopped, I settled the dot on his eye (I thought) and squeezed (or jerked it off)--and away the pig ran, though with its head down somewhat. I figured I would get out of the truck and scan and find it laying in the coastal--but nope, so either a clean miss or a non-lethal hit.

The reason for my " 1 pig out of 50 brave enough or dumb enough" statement was the 49 pigs on the other side of the fence when I shot. It is a web-type fence, not 5-strand barbed wire so they can't easily get onto the property I hunt---but occasionally one finds a way (maybe I should cut them an access hole?)

Headed out now to re-check zero and then tonight out to my other place for a sit there.

I do not know if hogs bite through fences, but I know they dig under them.
Just do not leave a pile of dirt on your side of the fence.

Then why don't Texans just call it Berumuda like everyone else does?

Like the word Caliche you guys use instead of Calcium Carbonate.

Texans have their own language for sure.

You can always tell a Texan, but you can't tell him MUCH

Yes, we have our own language.

Here's #2--my buddy was feeding cubes to his heifers, hauling with his tractor and this guy comes out of the brush to eat. He went back to the house, got his rifle, came back, and popped him--#2 for us this year----so far.

I'll be out for a sit tomorrow--

Did a reconfiguration to the stock yesterday---you can see where the sling attaches to the butt--on the bottom. The front attaching point is to the gas block on the barrel, which means, with the top-heavy scope when you are walking with it slung hands-free, it hangs upside down. I saw a pic of a butt with the attaching point on top of the comb and the light bulb came on. There is a slot beneath the round comb and I removed the snap link and passed the sling webbing thru the slot and voila! The rifle hangs naturally now. Warning to pigs, beware of the pasture stalker!

My buddy got a twin to the big sow I shot last week--and I'm headed back out tomorrow night as I have a regular visitor that needs to die. Next week we are gonna double-team a sounder in the river bottom that needs culling.
