I have actually grown partial to it over the years. I hated it at first...gradually started eating it more. Now a lot of times...Bovril on toast and some coffee and into the Cruiser we go.

As Nigel always says...nothing like a good go at the salt licks.

My PH asked smirking and smugly if I would be brave enough to try Bovril & Marmite, so I did.
Upon tasting them I replied to him then, and still maintain these items were developed in prehistoric times when early man was domesticating wolves which have become our modern day dogs. At some point it was dropped on the cave floor where upon these early wolf/dogs ingested these "delicacies" To this very day I believe the reason dogs lick their own butts is to get the taste out of their mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Add a splash of vodka and you have a poor man’s Bullshot. We take flasks of it with us in the Winter and it is a great pre-dawn kick start. Great stuff.

When there is no Bovril.

I slice a lemon or a couple of limes thinly, sprinkle some salt on and a drop of Tabasco on each slice.

Fantastic snack after a hard day on safari.
