I get the impression from your pictures in this report and those past that the weather in the Selous is always cloudy this time of the year.

No hunting yesterday because of the rain.

Spent the day in camp.

It is 4:30 now and it is raining again.

No idea if we will go out or not yet.

If the rain stops we might go out on foot.

Nothing fabulous about rain here.

We went out in the morning and got soaked.

Back in camp for the rest of the day.

Saeed:

I did warn you some serious stuff was heading your way .... and it isn't over either.

This unforeseen weather phenomenon is baffling as it is too heavy for it to qualify as the conventional short rains and more than a month early as they are usually expected late November/early December.

"Fabulous" was a reference to the photos, sorry. It looks like the river levels have come up from the start of the hunt as well. Love the staff weight set.

So you had a rain day.

now where are the "Walter" pictures...

Like the dip in the river, doing his BBQ, pestering the locals.

We went into a aprt of the concession rarely seen.

We followed a herd of buffalo for hours, then managed to shoot 2.

One Roy and one me.

Took us all day to recover them, back to camp by 8.

No food throughout the day at all, as they only managed to get our truck back to the buffalo by 4:30.

We had enough time to gut and cut one in half and one in quarters, to be able to load in the truck.

Walter shot a hippo, and Todd shot a wildebeest.

These photos are doing nothing to curve my desire to go back.

Great photos and thanks for sharing. I say it every year, but love the beat up stock on one of your rifles. Does seem as though it’s passed the mark of missing more paint than it has.

That first buff in the last group of photos is a beauty. Love it when their bosses are polished down smooth and tips worn down.

We have been having rain on and off.

Yesterday we found a lion in the bush, and followed it for a while trying to get a shot at him.

He was never more than 150 yards from us, but due to the bush there was no way for a shot, something is always in the way.

We gave up and decided to put a bait for him.

We did this in the afternoon after Roy shot a waterbuck.

In between we chased buffalo and got nowhere.

Found a pregnant impala doe just killed by a leopard..

He must have been disturbed by something, and he hardly ate anything.

Went and sat on a leopard bait easrly in the morning, by light we found that the bait was finished.

Decided to replace it, so went and shot an impala and put it up.

Back to camp by 8 for a late breakfast.

Teams B and Z are out

Walter shot an impala.

I shot onr too and Roy shot a hippo.

The impala I shot had a strange looking bite on his front leg.

The hippo had lion attack wounds.

We played cat and mouse with our lion this morning since first light.

We kept after him as he moved around, getting into thick and thicker stuff.

eventually we got to about 20 yards, and we had a clear fvie of him, lying down.

Again, no clear shot at him while lying down.

Eventually he got up and walked through a clearing, I fired and he disapperead.

found dead 10 yards further.

Proof positive that what some experts say that copper bullets are no good for lion.

A Square Lion Loads are despised by every professional hunter I have spoken to.

One kept saying they are good for impala and babbons.

Looking at those braai photos got me to wondering; how many meals has Rene cooked on one of those 3-legged disks? Nearly 40 seasons of safari using those old steel disks, I can just imagine the meals she’s created and the memories made.
