You are slipping, Ronald. The elephant I videoed you shooting a few years ago you dropped with one perfect frontal brain shot at 7 yards! beer Looks like you have caught VC disease/addiction from Karl tu2

I notice the second leaf standing up on your rear sight, is this now 'fixed' to raise your POI?
Nice clear video.

I saw twice you covered the ph with your muzzle.

can't deny that, nor blame it on camera angle.

Take a look: 2.53, and 4.40.

The rest of the time was fine.

Can't say as no one else was in the vid when you walked around the head of the ele and swung the muzzle all around. A bit later the drone shows the truck not far. where were the people?

Good shooting.

Nice clear video.

Obviously he meant to keep the second leaf up, it was like that throughout the video, when he showed the rifle to camera and while he was hunting.
Kind of odd to have the long-range leaf up on the closing stalk to 50 yards.
His first shot went low, despite this, but the situation was quite dynamic,
and the quick followup shot was perfect.
The front bead might be too tall, eh?
Just a bit puzzling in that detail.

Beautiful rifle and area. I hunted my two cape buffalo near Phalaborwa a few years ago.

What load did you use to produce 2050fps with the 900gr?

Now that's what I call a great hunting video! No staged drama, no nail-biting, just a realistic vid of an ellie hunt.

Great bull, and beautiful rifle (although I would not want it in that insane caliber.LOL 470 NE for me).

Well done in all regards.

Makes me want to "hunt just one more"!

Yes I had had noticed the sight leaf was up throughout the hunt. Note also that the hunter places his hand over the rear sight as he raises the double onto his shoulder after he has dropped a couple of cigars in the chambers and snap closed the gun. I'm assuming the leaf has been 'fixed' in that position to get the POI up without having to replace the front sight with a higher blade. Obviously the leaf didn't fold down as the hunter grasped the barrels at the sight. Strange to use a rear sight like that but I guess it works for the hunter.

Ronald is a very good friend of mine and a double rifle shot above the average, by a large margin.

I can tell you, after hunting DG with him myself, that safety is of the utmost importance to him.

There are a couple of guys that shoots a double off hand extremely well, Karl Stumpfe and Ronald Nel are two of them that I know and are good friends with.

I need to give Ronald flack over that first shot also, though the second one was a great follow up!

Yes Sir! In Limpopo Province where this hunt was conducted. In Mpumalanga Province DCA animals can be hunted by visiting hunters and exported.

You can add Sam Rose to that list also.
To watch Sam handling a .500 or .577 is breathtaking.

I take my hat off to these Men that can handle the ultra bores in such a manner. They are few and far between.

Great video, great shooting and thanks for posting.

Hi Jerry, yes you’re right..... not about slipping, but about the VC disease. Not the only thing I caught from mr Stumpfe though. Since that day you video’d my elephant brain shot at 7 paces, I’ve been scarred for life. An Elephant addiction isn’t easy to overcome and I’ve been battling with it ever since.

You guys sure don’t miss a thing. Yes that second leaf is up for a purpose. I only got this rifle recently, and it’s been shooting low, with my handloads. Jerome will bring me a lower front bead on his next trip to SA, but I simply couldn’t wait to put it to the test, therefore the 100m leave up.

Tnx for the kind word Charl, and those of everyone else.

Yes I am very conscious about safety.

About that first shot.... well, that happens and that’s what double rifles are built for. Not missing the first.... but being able to rectify ones mistakes!

Ron, curious when VC built that rifle for you as I assume they have not made a ton of 600NEs. Reason for asking is that one of my clients has a factory in St Etienne and while i was there i got to know Jerome Paquet pretty well and got to help regulate a 600 by shooting it. Thought it may be your gun. If so, I would have done this summer of 2015. It was a nice looking rifle that just needed regulated and finished.

Exactly my thoughts. Sam is not a big man in physical stature but handles the Big bores like he is shooting doves with a 20 gauge. The speed of his second shot and reloading are amazing.

Nice hunt and video sir. Thanks for sharing.
