Will be interesting to see how they do marketing. At these rates the surcharges and rentals seem a little over the top. Maybe more than a little.

Calitz has so many legalities the hunter will have about zero recourse should something go wrong. I hate the endless nickel and dime stuff: if they buy you something, they add 10% handling.

Rann must be proud of himself. An extra $500 a day to be in his company? That like the dirty clothes CB's agent was selling here a few years ago.

When I was in Botswana last July/August I looked forward to the upcoming changes to allow big game hunting there. Now I know the details, I'll plan elsewhere.

Has anyone seen or has the Botswana government issued a list of all the hunting companies and the blocks they have?

Mr. Rann has advertised his personal surcharge before.

I think rates for both companies are high but if that's the market- so be it.

Yeah the leopard packages seemed on the high side. Maybe this will help sell hunts in Tanzania.

Personally, no matter the price, I would not go with Calitz. I have a friend who booked and elephant hunt with Calitz. The trailer they use to move the meat broke. Calitz put it on his bill at the end. Of course, my friend never paid it.

Ridiculous prices for what they offer....I hope they get an eye opener when bookings are done. Nothing is unique enough about Botswana to justify those prices.

These prices are out of the world or at least the REAL world. It is very bad for hunting in general. When the regular guy can’t even afford to do a once in a lifetime dream hunt, he will become less interested in the whole conservation/hunting 5hing as it no longer concerns him as a possible hunter but just a contributor. Rumor is that there are several very rich people buying up MOST of the elephant hunts in Botswana so THEY can soot a majority of the elephants while the true hunters will be unable to compete and will never get to do their dream hunt. Really doesn’t sound attractive does it ?

Yes bit insane prices but then look at prices of certain cars or houses...
Nothing new

There is an old saying: A fool and his money are easily separated.

I reckon if you can afford those prices you can't be too much of a fool but still, there are less expensive options and just as good hunting to be found out there.

Is NG41 swimming in 60 # bulls after they shut the lights off and turned off the water? My guess they got peddled out to a Chinaman during the closure? Seriously, does anyone know how bad these premium area's where poached while they where gone?

Can even Tony Makris afford to go back to Botswana now? He and "Under Wild Skies" just may stay in Uganda. I can talk to Jeff Rann free at his tent during the DSC convention when he's there.

Have either of these companies been granted an area for operation? Does anyone know? If they have not been notified by the Botswana Government of their areas what are they selling?

I don’t think Uganda is a cheap place to hunt either.

Folks,

My 2 cents. I know some people pretty close to the Botswana situation. They are recommending not booking anything until at least 2021. There are a bunch of factors to consider but here is one. Nobody has maintained the pumps on the bore holes in the dry areas that previously were hunting blocks. It will take the elephants quite awhile to get in tune to water once again being available in these areas. I certainly wouldn't book anybody there until I knew how the first hunts went.

I am really happy that Bots has re-opened elephant hunting. And of course, outfitters are free to price these hunts as they wish.

Unlike, say, bongo, LDE or mountain nyala, elephant aren’t particularly rare, and are found in quite a few places, such as Zimbabwe, for a fraction of these prices. Hunt elephant in Botswana if you want to brag, or say you hunted with Calitz. I’ll save my money and hunt elsewhere.

A big elephant and a buffalo will set you back over $100K.

Add to it the stupid nickle and dime policy too.

They have a "surcharge" of $500 per day??

They charge you ridiculous price to lend you a rifle - I hate to see their ammo price!

And they demand you give them your video too!

Whoever came up with these ideas is an utterly stupid nincompoop so far removed from reality!
