Tagging on to an earlier post on Matetsi - does anyone have any commentary to add on the topic of the Matetsi ECA? Game quality/quantity, best time of year to go, etc.?

The ECA and Save Valley are the two areas in Zimbabwe I have considered for 2020 buffalo/leopard/sable/plains game, but I haven't heard or seen much about the ECA in specific.

ECA Matetsi is a fantastic hunting area with no fences. Boundary is a road. Great all round hunting.

Matetsi ECA is made up of ranches that were once private owned Game ranches that have been resettled by government. The settlers/new owners have set up their own Matesi ECA and got an operator in to manage and operate their Quota. Obviously wildlife numbers and quality of hunting can not be compared with Matetsi Safari areas and their units 1-6 or Deka safari area.

Then why would anyone wish to hunt there instead of Matetsi proper?

Probably.

But one gets what he pays for.

Going on safari is a major expenditure for some people, and I really think they should pay a bit more and get an experience to remember, rather than cut costs and get a so so hunt.

That's the truth and come across many who have had to do repeat safaris for one specie and it then becomes expensive. However there are no guarantees in hunting but that excuse can wear a little thin if repeated often.

The only difference I recall is you can legally hunt cats at night.

It doesn't appear to be any less expensive - it just happens to be one option in the region and would be potentially convenient for the hunt I was considering.

Gives you more options cause you can hunt at night for the elusive night cats and also do leopard and hyena and lion from a blind at night.

Only thing I could find by searching MATETSI ECA...

http://forums.accuratereloadin...561061232#9561061232

We had fun... later in the year is better, August onwards. Beginning of the year has long grass, but the harder you work the luckier you get. Borders Unit 4 and Unit 1.

SAVE is WAY better, in all aspects (well except Sable), but we always have fun wherever we go and manage to pull what we want out the woodwork!
