S&W M29s are not rare. However I just bought a used one that has a 10 and 5/8s inch long barrel. I believe that they were intended for shooting those steel critters. It has a front sight that has and ajustable four pos. to it. I believe to pre set elevation. My question is how long ago did S&W make these and for how long was it offered with this long barrel, and special front sight? I would also like to know how many were made like this.

I believe these were mad until about the mid 80s but that is going from memory.

They were designed as Silouette guns and yes the front sight was designed for preset distances.

To change the subject just a bit,I have a friend who has one with a six inch barrel and the adjustable front sight. I know they didn't make these long at all. Does yours have a non fliuted cylinder? As the man said, I think that's about two cents worth.
