Howdy all!!!

So I had a Scott dbl caliper release on a buckle strap that I set aside for a Carter Quickie II. That made a big difference because of the smoother trigger. (I also like the easy loading)

I thought I was doing pretty good with it....

Well I decided to get out the Evolution II the other day and do some back tension shooting. (I bought it and forgot it)

Dang, for just getting started, my groups were scary tight! (except for the flyer here and there from not doing the back tension right)
I even impressed myself! So I move back to 30 yards and was doing the back tension and doing better than I have ever done!

Well, here a few months ago I got Mrs. Smed a Diamond Edge and gave her my old Scott release but, the strap wasn't quite short enough and the one on my Quickie wouldn't go small enough so....

I picked up a used Carter "Fits Me Too" that I got yesterday. I had intended on having her use it until....

That thing is NICE!!!!

Just dinking around last night I was shooting GOOD!!

I don't have it quite right for me as far as the tension and thumb post but, with time I could get into this thumb trigger style of release!!

So not to dissapoint Mrs. Smed, I found a couple other ones over the last couple of days that I will be getting here so she can try them out (this is of course AFTER I give them the once over )

I guess what I learned from this all, I thought I was doing pretty good until I tried something different!!!!!

I use a Scott little goose and I am very happy with it.

I've been shooting archery for 35 years,target,3d,hunting. One thing I learned, you have to give new equipment a few weeks before you say "it does'nt work". Backtension,at least a year.

Glad you like the thumb. I bought a trufire thumb last year and didn't like it at all, my groups opened and impact was lower than my caliper for some reason. Went back to my caliper and back to shooting....

I use a scott wildcat and like it but have thought about trying a back tension release. But the main reason I got into archery was to extend my whitetail and turkey hunting season, and I don't know if back tension would work well for hunting. What do you think?

Scott Mongoose works pretty well for me. I also tried out a Fletch Hook and really liked that as well.

xm, personally I don't care for a back tension release for hunting, but in all honesty I have not spent the time to most likely give it a fair shot.
In my opinion from what I have tried, and seen in back tension releases is that they are great for trigger panic and shooting butts.
But for myself I don't suffer from trigger panic and I totally love being able to touch my bow off exactly like my rifles.
There is a lot of wind about what they call the 'surprise' break in shooting and I completely feel that it is bullshit.
In real world hunting situations you have to be able to touch that trigger off exactly when you need it to fire.
Not a nano second before or after.
I hunt a lot though in tough conditions, and at least half my shots are definetly not shot using target shooting style.
Often on my knees, or twisted in some funky position, and it is that shot or no shot.
But I kill a lot of animals with a few simple basics.
1, is not max poundage on my bow, figure out what you can pull on a good day standing straight up and then back it off about 10 pounds from that.
2,determine your max draw length and then shorten it an inch.
3,trigger release.
4,razor sharp heads and perfect arrow flight.
5, big open peep that allows you to center your entire front sight in it, and then pick your pin.
Do not try and center your pin in your peep, not enough time nor light usually when the witching hour comes around.

You will hear a lot of advice from paper punchers on these sites, but if you want to actually put meat on the ground it is a little different game when you are needing to take shots as and when they come.

I use a Carter 2 Shot.

I used to use the fletch hunter release with my old bow but I'm using a D loop with my X Force so I have gone to the short and sweet release. This is a really nice release that is trigger activated and quick to get on the loop. It also helps with your draw length because of it's compact size.

As most others here had wonderful luck with Scott Archery. Currently shoot the Sabertooh, with buckle, and strap rather than metal stem. Previously owned the Caliper, and the Rhino. All performed flawlessly.

The release I use is called GatorJaws.
Don't ever try one if you like what you have.

The thing I like about the Carter 2 Shot is that the trigger feels like a high quality rifle trigger.

Also when you click it on the loop, it is positively attached, until you "pull the trigger".

I ended up with the Carter "Insatiable2" after trying it and the "Target4."

I am really liking it as my consistancy has improved.

For me it is easier to get to anchor and I don't have to wiggle a finger, just suck my thumb into my hand and ...
